What new venue should we go to this summer (vacationing from Canada)?

Hey all, looks like the wife and I are hoping to check out DMB this summer and turn it into a 4 day vacation. Looking to hit up a venue we've never been and was looking for advice for not only an awesome show, but a cool place to check out as a whole. Any suggestions?

Notes:
- We're from near Toronto, have seen DMB tons in Toronto
- Went to the Gorge last year
- Same with Noblesville (and going again this year)
- Would be killer if we could crush two shows either back to back or geographically close enough to drive.

Ok....go!

Alpine is always good, tho the crowd tends towards younger and more drunken.

Wanted to go to Alpine 100% but dates don't line up. If we get a D&T in New Orleans or something like that we'll pull the trigger no matter where. But it's been a few years since they played CMAC so I'm not too confident.

Thanks for the input guys....keep the suggestions coming!

    SPAC is the answer...

you will need to work on:

    lodging

    tickets

    both are already very difficult.

I'd recommend Camden, NJ since it might not be too far from Canada. But the area around the venue is terrible. DMB plays solid shows there though. Maybe stay in Philly? Or make a vacation of it and stay in NYC?

We're cool to fly wherever we're going, that's not a big deal. So it doesn't necessarily have to be within driving distance of 'Canada' (we're 2 hrs from Detroit). More so looking for a cool city in general to hit up, which just also happens to have a Dave show playing while we're there.

Florida run is an option. Fly into Tampa day of show, drive across to WPB and enjoy beach and shows, fly out of West Palm Beach or Ft. Lauderdale

The Florida shows are good, but Fla in the summer is way to hot.
2 shows @ SPAC makes a great trip, you can stop in the Finger Lakes along the way. Really nice in the summer.
DTE in Michigan and Blossom are both wonderful venues, and within easy drive from London Ont.

Blossom is a very nice venue. Great atmosphere and surroundings and terrific sound in the pavilion.

OP, its more a matter of what part of the US you want to see. SPAC is a great venue, but i'm sure its surroundings are pretty similar to canada being that they are so close. Camden usually gets great shows although its in a shitty area, but if you're interested in seeing Philadelphia (and maybe even taking a little road trip to NYC or Baltimore/Washington) that would be a good choice. and then you have a place like The Gorge and stopping in Seattle. theres the Florida run if you want to go to the beach. shows in Denver if you want to see the Rockies.

make the trip about more than just the shows.

Yeah I second Blossom, it's my favorite venue out of... maybe 15 or so (?) that i've been to. Well, tied with the Gorge.

Beautiful structure and the sound is indeed great.

I was just kidding about Jiffy Lube Live, it's pretty cookie cutter although it's always an absolute blast

Re: What new venue should we go to this summer (vacationing from Canada)?

Last year I would have said Blossom hands down cuz you can hit up Starlake the night before plus Cuyahoga Valley, OH and the small town surrounding blossom is amazing if you're into outdoors.

But since they split the shows this year....SPAC is definitely top of the list if Alpine is out.

My wife and I did a long weekend last year in VA for Jiffy Lube Live and VA Beach. Shows were awesome but the traffic throughout the state was MISERABLE.

Living in FL I love the 3-4 shows we've been getting, but it will be HOT so unless your at the beach or scored PIT tickets for the three shows i may pass.

So...If I were you I'd take your wife to Harvey's Lake Tahoe. Only one show but it's Lake Tahoe. You'll get "not only an awesome show but a cool place to check out as a whole"

    Just my 2 cents

I've never been to Alpine so I can't compare to SPAC but I do know that the intimacy inside that amphitheater can't be beat

Jiffy Lube Live. Not because the venue itself is anything special (it's not), but because if you're looking for a city to spend some time in, you've got some options.

You can do Washington, DC with the museums and other sites around town, and the vast majority of the museums (and the zoo) are all free.

Or you can head to Charlottesville for the DMB "touristy" stuff (e.g. Millers, Blenheim, Roi's grave, the Warehouse).
