Really sorry to hear that, guys. Hope they kick the shit out of it

Just out of curiosity, how was the esophagus cancer found? Was your dad sick/did he have symptoms?

Thanks, I hope so too! He's got a great attitude about it so that helps.

He actually had felt fine, what happened is that he started having difficulty with certain foods going down properly - not that he had trouble swallowing, but that he could sort of feel some of the food get stuck below his throat, as if there was some obstruction there. So he called his doctor and they did a scope down there and that's when they found the tumor.

He's also lost almost 40 pounds since January, which is partly due to a more concerted effort to lose weight, but unintentional weight loss is also a symptom of this cancer.

My father is in the process of beating throat cancer as well, not esophagus. Never smoked and barely drank.

He had surgery to remove the cancerous lymph nodes in Feb 2015. He lost alot of weight due to radiation and his throat being swollen so he couldnt eat. But he's been in the clear for over 6-8 months now and things are looking good!

Just stay positive, it is a cancer that most can overcome.

Good luck to all you guys, my gf is a nurse at Memorial Sloan-Kettering and the things she tells me make me feel horrible enough, can't imagine having to go through it with a loved one, so best wishes to everyone going through that.

In the process of selling my house... requested that any showings require a 24 hour notice. Just got a message that someone wants to see the house at 4p today (~2hrs from now). Awesome.

Just my $0.02 but I feel like if I'm selling a house I'd want to be as accomodating as possible with that. It's good that you had the request out there, but that's a long time. I wouldn't want to miss out on any potential buyers personally.

Unless you're in a hurry for some reason I'd tell em to wait. Have gone through seven sales in life so far. Buyers or sellers that are inconsiderate are a pita the entire process.

If you need to move the property then yeah, gotta accommodate. Just one of those really irritating things to me. Also, bad agent. The whole, "it doesn't hurt to ask thing" would be followed up immediately with, "Can you waive your fee?".

Good luck with the sale, maybe these folks are in a hurry and it'll work out well for you.

Oh I think I misread that and was thinking 4 hours. 2 is definitely tight. But I guess still, if I'm trying to sell I'm probably keeping the place spotless at all times and ready to be inconvenienced to have to leave the house for an hour. Again just me, and after my experience housebuying last year.

Semi-related: We went to one house where our agent had given the buyer's agent plenty of notice, like at least a day. We get there in the AM and it looks like there's a doing some stuff in the garage. When our agent meets us, she goes to talk to the guy who tells us to come in. Very nice Asian man who doesn't speak the best English. Him and his wife are just there hanging out downstairs assuring us we can look around, semi following us around but not really. Then tells us to go upstairs where we find freakin children sleeping in their beds. He says no it's okay you can look. No, we're not taking a tour of your house and the bedrooms while your kids are sleeping in them. WTF. It was very weird.

Oh yeah, definitely keeping the place spotless etc. However, I work from home, hence the 24 hours(ish). Tough for me to pick up and go on 2 hours notice. It's just frustrating that I told my realtor that specifically, and one of the first requests is for 2 hours away.

you sound like our seller not really I'm sure, but she worked from home and was so difficult throughout the process. One thing was I think the appraiser was being sent to the house and her agent had supposedly given her the appropriate notice. We found out later that day that she had been home, told the guy she couldn't leave and that he'd have to reschedule. So that delayed that for another day or two and I think there was some controversy about them wanting to charge an additional fee (which would fall on us) for the reshedule.

I'd say your flexibility should depend on your market. If I were selling my house, in Austin, I'd tell them to get fucked. 50 people in line behind you that will wait till I'm ready. If I were selling my house in Flint? You want to see the house in five minutes? Sure.

Hopefully just scored a little victory which stemmed from an irritant.

Around the County there are these donation bins which are freestanding and unmonitored. In big letters all over these bins it says clothes and book donations. The problem is people don't put the donations inside the box. Its simple to deposit them in the box, its just like mailing a letter. The other problem is, people think they can donate other things to including, bed side tables, dishes, televisions, etc.... Theres two of these bins in the parking lot across the street from work where I and other employees park. Its also across the street from a school. These bins not only have possible things that can be donated, it also has garbage. This garbage is left by the guy who picks stuff up from the bins and isn't cleaned up by the property owners in which the bins sit. So being frustrated with the situation I emailed the HQ of the store and told them about the situation. Two days later I received a call from the store manager telling me he did some research and found out the bins were not authorized to be on the property and the bins would be removed and the trash will be cleaned up. I think this awesome and hopefully in the next few days the bins will be removed.

Yeah, I really don't want to be a pain in the ass... but in turn, we're also looking at houses to buy. I don't even consider making a same day appt unless their agent says it's ok.

    Couple reasons why dudes who trivialize street harassment irritate me;

    1) Friend of mine, who has gotten cat-called with me with her, got cat-called today, she ignored him, the guy followed her for a block or so and eventually gave up but not before throwing a half-full soda can at her. Left a bit of a bruise, plus soda all over her clothes.

    2) This: http://gothamist.com/2016/07/28/east...ack_groper.php

You friend ignored him and he threw a coke can at her? What the fuck.

I saw a female get cat-called the other day near the North End Boston and my first thought was "what year is this"

Had zero idea cat-calling was still a thing

    A few recent irritants:
    - the presidential race and the instant experts and the divisive language and hyperbole everyone uses
    - this pokemon craze
    - my coworker who pocketed a nice tip himself which was meant to be split amongst a few people
    - dumb tourist questions (bonus points when they are adament about something but are completely wrong)
    - just did a 12 hour road trip so lots of driving ones - shout out to the guy who cut off the ambulance with lights on going down the highway
    - cover charges at bars/clubs/parties

Need to give your coworker a code red/blanket party. Few things in service industry are lower than stealing from your coworkers.

Haha yeah, this dude is the worst. Im a bellman right now and we have big all inclusive groups that come in so we dont get tipped for that. They just drop 60 huge bags off and I work in a historic hotel with no elevators...it sucks and no one likes doing it, but its part of the job. This guy will do anything to avoid doing groups. Well this one tour director who comes back every week gave us a $50 to split but he pocketed it. Not huge money but fuck him.

    Re: What irritates you?

one of my roommates quit her job and decided to babysit full-time, in OUR house. none of the other roommates want kids in the house because they are annoying as fuck. we were never even asked if we would be okay with it. we'll be having a chat soon, and its not going to go well for the girl doing the babysitting. she and her girlfriend have broken the lease terms in several ways, so if they don't stop the babysitting, either they leave and we find new roommates or the rest of us leave and they get stuck with a $2100 lease payment.
