Not ashamed to admit they are in my top 5 bands of all time.

Their catalog is ridiculous.

They are right outside my top 5, so many wonderful songs. No shame in repping that band

10th anniversary of Transatlanticism, it's being reissued on vinyl (iso McWyffe) and they are releasing demos for all the songs on the record. No new songs but most of them have some different lyrics or arrangements and they are definitely worth listening to if you're a fan. Cant believe this one is 10 years old

Death Cab is one of those bands that I can not listen for a couple of months and then play one or two of their songs and remember how great they are. They're just a really consistently good band, and their music only gets better with time.

I love Transatlanticism but I have a hard time listening to it from start to finish in one sitting because it's so emotionally heavy and evocative. Some of those songs just tear your heart out

Seriously, check out the demos. There's entire different verses and added sections, with postal service-type beats. Really interesting stuff

They really should do this with Plans as well. From the clips I heard the demos sound pretty good and more postal service-esque

That's awesome. I paid $50 for a German pressing two years ago after begging their mgmt. to reissue the album and never getting a response lol. Definitely their best album. Any fan should have this one on vinyl.

I bought that $250 "The Barsuk Years" vinyl box set last year and I got an e-mail from Barsuk letting me know I can download the Trans demo tracks too seeing as I bought the box set even though it was through Artists in Residence and not Barsuk, cool guys! Looking forward to grabbing these.

New album "Kintsugi" coming March 31st.

    Quote:
Death Cab for Cutie is excited to announce the release of their eighth studio album, Kintsugi which will be available March 31st. The album takes its title from the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics with precious metals, highlighting cracks rather than hiding them. "Philosophically, spiritually, emotionally, it [Kintsugi] seems perfect for this group of songs." says bassist Nick Harmer.
    Kintsugi track list:
    1. "No Room In Frame"
    2. "Black Sun"
    3. "The Ghosts Of Beverly Drive"
    4. "Little Wanderer"
    5. "You've Haunted Me All My Life"
    6. "Hold No Guns"
    7. "Everything's A Ceiling"
    8. "Good Help (Is So Hard To Find)"
    9. "El Dorado"
    10. "Ingénue"
    11. "Binary Sea"

Sigh. I am pumped for that and sad that it's the last one with chris walla. I hope it's a bit of a return to form, codes and keys and narrow stairs are not nearly as bad as some people say they are but they are obviously not up to par of photo album, Trans, plans, and something about airplanes. I have high hopes and love this band.

Agreed, some really wonderful moments on each like Grapevine Fires and Underneath the Sycamore but I would love another Trans/Plans.

WHAT?! This is the 1st I've heard about this. Just googled it...what the heck happened? He just wants to be able to produce more??

Chris Walla IS Death Cab. I mean I'm glad they at least got one more album with him, but they're never gonna be the same. Sad.

But still, an amazing music day. New Death Cab and new Sufjan announcements.

You guys hear the other new song put out? No Room in Frame: http://youtu.be/uxTH8GZ4PC4

I dig it. It still sounds like the new iteration of Death Cab though (Narrow Stairs, Codes&Keys). I'm trying to put my finger on what it is and it seems like Ben's vocals. After Plans his voice just sounds a different on the 2 studio efforts since and the few songs we've heard of the new album. Maybe it's that slight echo effect...not sure, but that's the most distinct thing I can put my finger on for now.

Definitely agree about his voice. To mean it sounds completely clean now and his voice needs a bit of studio enhancement IMO. They way over did it on their first few albums but perfected it on photo-trans-plans but have pretty much just stopped doing anything to it. His voice has also changed over time naturally and it certainly isn't quite as pleasing to the ear.

I don't like black sun too much but picture in frame is great and is so obviously about ms. Deschanel. Overall im still not sure how I will feel about this album but to be completely honest my expectations aren't too high. If we can get 3-4 really good songs I will be happy

I'm actually catching up and listening to the new album for the 1st time. Really dig the stripped down versions of the new songs in the Tiny Desk Concert from 2 posts above. Black Sun especially...the emotion in the song hits you a lot harder.

I'm also seeing them next week...anyone heard what they're doing to replace Chris Walla for the live shows?

Check out Black Sun from Letterman, I think it sounds awesome and this is the touring line-up:

I love watching Jason drum, he has this effortless fluidity about his drumming.
