This will be before Ep. IV, no? So we're getting a film that will roughly be in the same time period as Rogue One....?
I doubt Vader would make an appearance. And it would be before 4 and probably 5-10 years after 3 (assuming it's 19 years between 3 & 4).

Hopefully they won't tie it directly to A New Hope/Empire. To show scenes referenced in those movies just cheapens those moments of dialogue. (eg "Won it fair and square.") Leave some stuff left unseen.

You don't need
•Han dropping cargo at the sight of an Imperial Cruiser
•Han winning the Falcon
•The Kessel Run (Heck, do we know that Han even did the Kessel Run? He brags that THE SHIP made the run. Perhaps he wasn't the pilot when it happened?)

You can do this movie so it's like 2-3 years before A New Hope. You don't need to end it with Han parking the Falcon at Docking Bay 94.
I feel like you just hit on 3 major moments they're going to include

like those three plot beats could probably constitute the entire movie, with a couple filler sequences

If they did a "time jump" thing like they did in Rogue One:

    OPENING SCENE

    Han winning Falcon from Lando

    MIDDLE ACTION SEQUENCE

    Kessel Run

    FINAL ACTION SEQUENCE

Han dropping Cargo at the sight of Imperial Cruiser

    LAST SCENE

    RAWWWRRRR

Tatooine? Hmmm...it's on the Outer Rim. The Empire won't come here. Could be a good place to lay low.

if they did it like rogue one there would just be a montage of smuggling scenes for the first 30 minutes, all lasting roughly 2 minutes and taking place in entirely different locations

    couple takeaways from that

    1. what were the directors of the Lego movie and 21 Jump Street doing with Star Wars canon? Doesn't this seem way above their pay grade?

    2. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot of "creative differences", similar to R1 being too dark originally. "Nope, don't do that, don't be original, stick to the formula"...I have a bad feeling (no pun intended) that most of these are going to be shitty cookie cutter sci movies with a SW header, and that's about it.

oh you have GOT to be fucking kidding me. Them pulling this kind of drastic movie right in the middle of goddamn shooting, hell when they were presumably almost done... does Kathleen Kennedy have any idea what the fuck she's doing?

I went from being very skeptical of this idea, to incredibly excited for it once they came on as directors and got the cast they did, to now expecting this is going to be a massive disaster. shit this really sucks.

actually, I think I know what this is about, and this was already even addressed by someone else (Lord & Miller?) after those comments. It's that people were taking Bob Iger too literally. He didn't mean it in the way of, Han Solo was not what the guy was named at his birth and we'll now be told what that is. He meant it in the metaphorical sense. How he got his reputation, his legacy within the SW world.

I'm like 99.9% sure that's all that is.

But again, with this new bucket of shit news, I could give a damn about that. I'm really curious to know how some or all of the main actors feel about this, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they liked what L&M were doing and this was a producer/studio thing, so maybe they're freaking out now they'll be tied to a mess.

In fairness, what were the Russo Brothers, directors of Arrested Development, Community and You, Me and Dupree, doing directing Captain America: Winter Soldier? Easily the best of the Marvel movies.

I've never been on board with this. And it's because of this reason alone. They are going to take something special and beat it completely to death. What makes the character of Han Solo so special is Harrison Ford. This isn't James Bond that's been played by multiple actors for 50 years. This is a character played by one actor and loved for 40 years. We don't need to know Han's real name, or see him make the Kessel Run. There's no need for it. Just let well enough alone. I'm also not feeling too confident about the next two episode movies. Hearing that Carrie Fishers dying screws up the whole direction they were going, and that Mark Hamill wasn't super into the direction they're going with Luke, makes me nervous.

It's incredibly unusual to be sure. However, if it comes down to me trusting Kathleen Kennedy (producer of about a dozen classics) or Lord/Miller (who have made 1 good movie)...I'm going to side with Kathleen.

Yeah, probably a smart move for them to leave the project. Clearly Disney doesn't know what they're doing when it comes to the SW franchise.

    1. trevorrow and johnson hadn't been churning out blockbusters before they got called up to do SW. trevorrow got hired for jurassic world I believe after he was tied to SW

    2. I think this is a lot of it. I know kennedy is a world class producer but I think even she may be overruled by a bunch of disney execs listening to focus groups going "make it funnier! han solo was always really funny!"

I actually read this morning that Lord and Miller were the ones that wanted to make it funnier. If the creative differences were Lucasfilm/Disney trying to make it a little more weighty, that's a positive in my book.

I have to assume this is sarcasm
