Live In Las Vegas D&T

OK, I love the taper version of this and just got the official version + double down CDs today. All I can say is...greatness.

The taper version has the first time Dave covered After The Goldrush which he thought he messed up...I think it's a killer tribute to Neil Young myself.

The official version includes Tim's solo of Kashmir....believe the hype because it is so good it'll make your ears bleed.

Absolutely beautiful versions of Stay Or Leave, Bartender, Grace Is Gone, and Christmas Song.

A song that may surprise you because it is amazing in acoustic....SMLAM.

Are you loving this release too?

This is a great release. I was unsure as to how the new songs would translate to a D+T show, but they kill it. Alligator Pie is real nice... and if you haven't heard Kashmir, do yourself a favor and pick up this album.

I like the pace of Grey Street a lot on this release. Loving Wings is also a note worthy track--beautiful song, and surprisingly it holds well in the acoustic setting. Stay or Leave is always incredible, but Dave flubs a lyric that is hard to ignore, which just means that I'll have to listen to the perfect Radio City version instead to get my fill. The BW songs sound great, especially Funny The Way it Is and You & Me. I highly recommend this release to anyone who's considering.

    What, no Davespeak?

Just picked up the 'official' release yesterday... partway through disc 1... and they've edited out almost everything Dave said between the songs??

Except where they couldn't, like the "needing love more than food" comment in the opening notes of Loving Wings... but this doesn't even make sense without the dedication he made to his wife just before.

I'm not saying official releases should include every rambling story he tells, but taking out every joke completely changes the feel of a D&T performance... didn't they learn what they did right with Luther College and Radio City?

Sorry kids but I gotta give this one

And thank god for the tapers

I think the release is nothing less than spectacular! It sure is a step up from the tapers (not the taper's fault) because the sound is dialed in and the crowd is dialed out...like it should be. They left some crowd noise in there but there was way too much crowd noise on the taper's pulls. I think the BW tunes transferred over quite nicely to the Dave and Tim format.

I give it an A-, only because they chose N3, instead of doing N2. N2 was the best of the 3 nights, hands down. Still real happy with this release.

    It's about the music, man...

If you like the whole "experience," then yeah listen to the tapes, but official releases are intended to put out crisp live copies of songs.

I'm not sure how shocking this is really. Its an acoustic driven song.

What is surprising is how good some of the new songs like SMLAM and Funny turned out to be acoustic.

OP, totally agree with the Neil Young cover. It instantly became my favorite D&T cover.

But in a full band setting it's highly drum, sax and trumpet driven. The risk with such a simple riff is that it becomes dull stripped down, but that's not the case.

Are we all forgetting that we have all heard this Dave w/ no Tim on the Benaroya Hall DMBLive and it works beautifully?
