Another thing to remember is that the band (and fans) just came off the brutal 2005 Stand Up tour. So not only was 2006 a pretty good year, but it was a huge breath of fresh air to see songs like JTR, Raven, Proudest Monkey, Pig, Say Bye, BOWA, Joyride, Grace, Dreaming Tree, etc etc etc after being pummeled by Stand Up the year before.

Was Atlantic City the last "in-store" type release? I hope the band continues to put out non-Live Trax/DMBLive releases (call them "in-store" or "Live at..." or whatever you want). It's just more options and chances for a really good show to find a release.

That, plus the fact that we have Under the Table and Dreaming Reissue and this Live Trax 32. There's no way they're going to do an in-store release also, or else they would have made Live Trax 32 an in-store release.

Unfortunately it was the beginning of Rashawn. I rarely listen to any show from 2006 because of him. He stepped all over Roi's toes that year and just ruined songs. Maybe it was Roi's idea to add Rashawn, but it was a bad one. He's gotten better and I can tolerate him playing with Jeff, but he was not a good match for Roi. Roi had way more soul and ease to his playing, while Rashawn is all about the highest loudest note he can play. There are some great sets from that year, but Rashawn brings that tour down quite a few pegs in my eyes.

The in store releases we've seen before have been box sets, so unless the LT series does a multi night box set anytime soon, I'm hoping we'll a multi night box set eventually, perhaps the Deer Creek release people have been asking for.

I remember when DT was liberated that tour. Now THAT caused some real excitement. DT and Last Stop coming back in the same tour? DMB community was losing their minds. And then that break happened, and then the tour turned 180.

Were you around for 03? That was even bigger (not to trump the excitement in 06, but it was the first liberation of those tunes) and what was better was that the second half of the tour didn't take a dive bomb. Hadn't seen Last Stop or Dreaming Tree since 99. By 03 it was thought that those songs were dead. I was at the first 2 shows of the tour in Columbus and in two nights we got the following returns:

    Typical Situation
    The Last Stop
    Cry Freedom
Pay For What You Get (completely took me off guard. I couldn't even believe it.)
    The Dreaming Tree
    The Maker

On top of those songs coming back we got the following setlists:
    http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...=72&where=2003
    http://www.dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSe...=72&where=2003

Granted the performances were a little rough. Boyd was out of tune and they had trouble with timing, lyrics etc. on a couple other songs (Last Stop was rough the first night out of the box), but they were back and that's all that mattered. I was so lost in sheer excitement I didn't notice any issues. 03 was a tour that was actually worth checking the setlist every night of the summer because you had no idea what might happen. I was so psyched I wound up making the last minute decision to go to Cinci the day of the show, came back to Columbus that night and drove down again for night 2. Glad I did because we got Minarets the first night for the first time since 2001. Minarets is my little brother's favorite DMB song and, me being the "know it all", said, "there was no way they would bring that back. They already brought back so many songs to start the tour"...and then it happened...while he was in the bathroom LOL! It would take a pretty insane tour to make me do stuff like that again. Nowadays I just try to catch them at least once a year.

    This guy gets me.

2003 is my #1 DMB tour. I would love to see some more Live Trax from that year. Cinci night 2 was incredible.

whenever people start to talk about 03 I always repeat that I want this show released:

    Dave Matthews Band
    Tuesday, September 16, 2003
    Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Charlotte, NC

    Ants Marching
    Satellite

    Two Step
    Cry Freedom
    Recently
    Crash Into Me
    Too Much
    All Along The Watchtower
    E: Typical Situation
    E: Tripping Billies

I'll never go to a show as good as that again. Sadly, it was my first show. Like a heroin user in that regard, I guess.

I have it as a 16 out of a possible 17, I think really the worst anyone could possibly score it is a 13, giving a -1 for satellite and a -1 for IDI. I think that's quibbling too much, especially considering the placement of both is harmless, and considering those songs were only played 5 times each out of 22 Second Leg shows.

Seriously. DT is a song people might take for granted now, with it's semi-regular play most tours. But in 2006, that was nuts. Same for songs like Proudest Monkey (not played since 2002) and Pig (not played nearly enough) making such regular setlist appearances. Throw in JTR, Raven, Grace, and eventually Last Stop, and for a moment 2006 seemed like our band was finally back!

Even the new songs were pretty exciting. Shotgun was evolving each time it was played, Idea of You seemed like their next big single, Break Free and Kill The King had a funky Everyday-esque vibe to them, and for a brief moment, we didn't all hate Sister.

And for the record, I enjoyed Rashawn then and I enjoy him now. It's Tim that I ironically have a bit of an issue with, though they've turned him down a lot in 2014 finally.

First off, 2003 was nuts. NUTS. Incredible sets left and right.

This is exactly how I felt. You nailed it. Even Can't Stop at the time was just a funky intro to Crush. It hadn't evolved yet into the massive piece of shit it is now.

Sadly, like a lot of others have mentioned, I am of the firm belief that I will never be this excited about DMB or see another show even close to being on par with these ever again. 2008 Alpine is really the only thing, IMO, that has come even close to 2006 (first half), 2004, and 2003 in terms of "post Everyday DMB". I will never understand what happened that weekend, but for some reason, they found "it" again for two nights.

2003 was incredible. 2006's first half brought about some REAL excitement in the band, and then they just shit on it again. That's part of the real depressing part about DMB. Time and time again they seemed like they were on the right path and then just went in a TOTALLY different direction that no one understands. It's half-assed efforts and a failure to really give a shit about anything outside of the easy path.

I've said it a couple times before, but I really have a hard time differentiating from the last couple tours. 2009-2014 have basically been the same rehashed shit. Two sets really didn't add any new flavor besides the first set being "acoustic" even though most of the songs were basically the same exact thing. They've just become stale.

I remember getting on the boards in 2004 or 2006, etc. and reading REAL excitement about the band. People genuinely wanting to discuss sets, the new music...I remember the buzz around Stand Up coming out...God that shit was exciting.

The coolest thing about some of those shows is the song placement. Ants to open? Midset Two Step? Typical Situation E1?

Dave has never been an extremely creative or great setlist writer, but there were some rare gems where he just did well in certain years. 2003 is one of them. Then again it also helped that he didn't have nearly as many shitty songs to pick from as he does now.

Fact. Need more of that Martin DM3MD sound from 99. Or a Winter 2000.

That's the closest thing to a perfectly written set that I've seen. This type of set should be the norm, not the exception. What happened to the guy who wrote sets like this one?

You look at sets post-2006 and none really come close to something like this. It's just frustrating at this point when you know what Dave and Co. are EASILY capable of night in and night out...

Was this a tight show? ... because the set list is phenomenal. If the performances are tight and Dave's voice on point, I can get behind this, for sure. Not a single skip for me, song-wise.

Pretty much all setlists prior to 2001 have no skipworthy songs.

Just found a clip of "Pig" from 5/9/99 that Copperpot posted on YouTube called "Pig Trainwreck"…

Lol, yeah, I don't think they'll be releasing a soundboard of that anytime soon.

Other than that Pig mishap, the whole show is performed well.

Besides, on LT 32, Dave completely fucks up #41.

I didn't even realize that was from that show

It's a damn shame though, cause that show looks awesome!

Perfect opener with the stone, throw in a YNK, I actually like if I had it all, that four song run with last stop and dreaming tree and a pretty solid encore, wow

It was an incredible night. It's funny how being at the show I don't always notice some of the nuances like Boyd being completely out of tune a lot of the night. I was pretty drunk, was making out with some hot chick I met at the show (oh college) and dancing my ass off. I got the tape a few days later and Boyd was wicked out of tune and I imagine it was bad enough, that unless they auto-tune him, they'll never release the show. But actually being there was incredible. I had just come off of 2 nights in Columbus in which they played 2 of the most insane sets that no one expected to happen as tour openers. Typically DMB takes a couple weeks to get things rolling a bit and then a few weeks into the tour they'll unleash a few surprises here and there. In 2003 they just dove right in. After Columbus I thought there was no way I could go the rest of the summer without seeing them play again. Not when they were playing sets that looked like that. Back then you just wanted more. They played sets that fans loved and they played their asses off. Nowadays, while they're still my favorite band, seeing them one night of a two night stand is usually enough for me. Of course if I had the money to hit up another show I probably would, but I just don't have the same drive to put away enough cash for multiple shows.

I'll take 10/29/98, 10/30/98 or 10/31/98. Might be the best 3 day run in DMB history.

    If it's 98 I'd rather take 12/3

I've seen it said here many times that we will never get a MSG show due to some contract money thing so we can throw 12/3 out the window.

10.29.98 in San Jose looks pretty incredible to me. Whole show with Tim.
