Comcast/Verizon/Etc Complaints

So my soon to be mother in law uses comcast and the shit has been out since yesterday afternoon. When I went on yesterday to get an update via my phone it said the fix should be completed by 6 PM. Well that was 17 hours ago and still no internet or TV service. When I try to call their automated messaging just tells me there is an issue, not what it is or how long it is expected to be down. For how much Comcast charges you think they would be able to provide better information/service.

This isn't my first run in with Comcast. Is Verizon just as bad? Any ants in the Philadelphia area with Comcast experiencing outages?

Also, when I searched for Comcast threads each resulting thread I clicked on gave a 404 error, so that was strange

    Google is usually your friend for thread searching, but in this case I didn't see this one, which I think is the most relevant/recent for Comcast bitching. Used Ants' search, thread titles only.

    Don't get me started either, my hatred for TWC is growing exponentially in the last week. Internet has been in/out for over a week and they made me an appointment 8 days later.

    Literally no competition - FIOS isn't yet in our area and I honestly don't think there's another provider anywhere nearby.

    I dumped Comcast for Uverse, which felt great. But Uverses internet is not the best. During peak hours (aka when I am home and using the internet.....) it can get pretty clunky.

    Comcast might be the worst service provider of any kind in history. I could post so many issues, between moving into my apartment, then moving to my house, my inlaws beach house, etc etc, but I wanted to use my 50,000th post on something positive.

    It's coming to my neck of the woods "soon" and I'm hopeful it will be nice. I currently have Uverse internet but as Arby says above, it can get clunky on nights and weekends.

    I'm counting the minutes until I can get either that or, preferably, Google Fiber. Uverse isn't available at all in my area, so I'm really hoping that Google comes to my hood.

    I ditched Time Warner in favor of DirecTV for TV service, but I'm still stuck with their internet for now.

    Alright so this is my first fuck comcast post.

    I moved into my townhouse in September. When I called to order service from Comcast they asked what I wanted? told them I just needed the comcast double play, with like 70 HD channels, and blast internet. They threw in HBO free for a year and asked if I wanted a DVR. I said not at the moment, but am thinking about it shortly. The guy on the phone said no problem, you can add it whenever and that it would be $17 more a month.

    So Saturday my gf and I decide to get the DVR and call to add it. After being on hold 30 minutes someone answers and I tell them that I just want to add a DVR. A lady tells me that I would have to get the triple play in order to get a DVR. I said i dont' think that's right, and told her about what the guy told me when I ordered my service less than two months ago. She said that wasn't right, and that we need to get phone service in order to get a DVR. I told her I didn't want phone service and I just wanted DVR. She said quote " you don't have to use the phone, but you need to pay for it in order to get the DVR". I couldn't believe how stupid this bitch was. I asked to speak to someone else and was placed back on hold for another 20 minutes. Finally someone else answers and the dude spoke no english at all. He kept saying "channels change" I told him I didn't want to change any channels, and that I just wanted a DVR. I got nowhere with him, and told him I'd call back.

    Last night during sunday night football, my service cut out during half time and had to watch the rest of the game on my ipad. This is nothing new with the x1 platform, so I didn't think nothing of it.

    Today after work I come home and no longer have HD. I called immediately and was on hold for just under an hour. A lady answers and pulls up my account to tell me that it says I never had HD service. I told her politely that I've had it for the past two months, and that if I didn't have it, then why am I paying for it? She said she would have to transfer me to billing.

    20 minutes later a guy in billing answers and he pulls up my account to tell me...wait for this and I swear on my grandfathers grave this is what he said.."this billing department doesn't handle your billing, we need to transfer you to another billing department" He then told me it would be useless since that billing department closes at 9pm and it was 8:50pm. So I just hung up.

    This was all because I just wanted to add a DVR.

    so tomorrow i'm cancelling comcast and going with verizon fios.

    I genuinely hate Comcast. They sent my info to a bill collection agency because of a screw up on their end. I had these people hounding me for months before they finally said they were turning my info over to the IRS. I told them I'd like to see them try and they'd be hearing from my lawyer. I went to the local Comcast location and the receptionist was real nice and she solved the issue in 5 minutes. She apologized profusely and basically said everyone was an idiot.

    Also, I just hate all cable providers because my first job out of college was with one. I had applied in June and they didn't call me until August, didn't hire me until September. They had me fill out all the paperwork and told me a start date, then the Friday before I start (as I was moving into a new place in town) they called to tell me they were gonna have to let me go. I asked why and they said because as they were reviewing the numbers they didn't have the finances to support the position. I asked why they didn't think to check that before they posted the job listing 4 months earlier and he said it was an oversight. I asked how someone with a multimillion dollar corporation could be so incompetent. He told me they'd call back if they found the money and told them don't that I didn't want to work for a company that didn't have their act together.

    I'm so goddamn fed up right now. This shit internet service has dropped out so many times over like the last 3 weeks now, not for like hours and hours, but just enough to continually be really annoying. Like 20 and 30 minutes, but enough to where I have to bother shutting all my shit down and rebooting the computer, and hitting that fucking reset button on the modem. and I've had it happen I think now FOUR different times just since about 6pm tonight.

    I am finally making the fucking switch to Verizon Fios THIS WEEK, it's way overdue. I'd already done some homework on it awhile ago, making sure my location can get it and everything, and had just gotten lazy with following thru.

    And, I'm going to spillover on my Uber/Lfyt rant. Once you have a monopoly, the customers are proper fucked. Who are you going to run to when there is an issue? Who can you switch to?

    Same with cabs/taxis...My main issue with them is that they're so unreliable. They don't care if you have to catch a flight or other connection. I had to wake up three hors earlier to catch a flight, utilizing all three of those hours for the cab to show up. That gave me a +/- 6 hour window to get to the airport and through security and still barely made my flight last time I used a cab service. Cabs may or may not come to my area of Chicago. With the other ridesharing options, it's exponentially more likely there will not be an issue with your pickup.

    Oh, and I live like 12 miles from O'Hare. I shouldn't need a 6 hour window to get there for a four hour flight.
