Re: The National

I've tried really hard to get into this band. I just can't do it.

I'll check those out later tonight. I just couldn't stand the lead singer's voice the times I tried.

Yeah, that happens, I wouldn't fret it man. Everyone has that band where they can't get past the voice.

The National are pretty fing solid though. Their biggest negative is lack of diversity, but if you can get into their shit you will dig pretty much everything. Maybe it will grow on you.

Apartment Story's their best song but IMO if you don't like Slow Show even a little bit, you definitely won't ever like this band. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCR0Tr2HTfA

this is their best rocker song along with Mr. November, Abel and Mistaken for Strangers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMrMFA2fMYs

    love that beautiful piano? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aV0Ka-SSEU

If you don't like that then I appreciate you for trying. A lot of people listen to Fake Empire and diss them. They're probably my favorite band in the world (them or THS) and I love that you actually gave them a chance

I'm not sure what you are saying in half of this post (), but Slow Show happens to be one of my favorites and Fake Empire is sort of brilliant, but I'm not sure it's the best choice for someone looking to get into them.

Link to Mumford cover of England?

The National was definitely a grower for me due to Matt's voice. I hated it at first and it made me stop listening to them for several months, even though I thought the music in Fake Empire was beautiful. For whatever reason over the next few months it grew on me exponentially. For that reason I always provide a preface when I recommend this band to friends, "the lead singer's voice will totally catch you off guard, but give it time because the music's beautiful and you'll learn to appreciate the uniqueness of the vocals."

Was watching this and wasn't really thinking about the music until the drums kick in hard around 2:45. Couldn't really be a more obvious Cherry Tree ripoff.

Damn I fucking love this band

I wanna hurry home to you
Put on a slow, dumb show for you
    Crack you up
So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
    God I'm very very frightening
    I'll overdo it

You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
    I missed you for
    For twenty-nine years

Yeah, I was at the show too. What a night. I liked how the guitars are much more prominent live than they are on the studio recordings. Squalor Victoria just goes to a whole other level in concert... Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks was a great way to close the show. The National are simply one of the best bands of our times.
