Alpine camping suggestions

I am usually able to do one trip a year for DMB and that ends up being the Gorge....but due to an addition to my family around that time (I already tried convincing the wife that a two-week old is just fine on a plane), I am doing Alpine this year. Any suggestions on where to camp? I want to get this set as soon as the dates come out, since I have heard it is tough to get good camping spots without having to drive for days after the show. Thanks for the help guys!

Good post, I too am looking for the same info. I went in 2008 and camped in Lake Geneva, but for the life of me cannot remember the name of the site we camped at.

    Re: Alpine camping suggestions

I am also looking for campsites, below are some of the quotes I found while searching....These seem to be the best three.

"There is a beautiful state park campground, Ottowa Lake, in the Kettle Moraine Southern unit. This is located in Eagle, WI. Alot of concert goers camp there. That would be the only campground near East Troy other than in Mukwonago. It is a small lake."

"There is a campground in Delavan, WI called Snug Harbor. They have a lot to do and they also have a shuttle bus to and from the Alpine Valley for $40 a person, but they never leave the concert area and do a head count to make sure everyone is on before they leave. You also get to bring your own beer, camping chairs and little grill for tailgating."

"There is camping at Big Foot Beach State Park in Lake Geneva, which would be south of Alpine Valley on Hwy. 120 and then to County Road H."

skip big foot, no alcohol at all, they search- no noise at all after you get back from the show, good family campground, not good for concert goers.

I'm partial to Snug Harbor, but I know a lot of people on ants like Bong.

In all seriousness, if your goal is to camp and see some kick ass Dave shows, go to Deer Creek. You will not be disappointed. At alpine you have to drive 20+ minutes to get to a campground...and that doesn't count the time it takes to get out of the freakin parking lot. At Deer Creek, you walk anywhere from 2 minutes if you stay at the venue campground to 15 min if you stay at dead creek and you're back to your campsite. I have been to both venues as well, and just don't understand how anyone that likes to camp would choose Alpine over Deer Creek.

    Re: Alpine camping suggestions

Unfortunately, camping is just the "extra" for me, I work about 70 hrs a week and Alpine is 4 hrs closer the Deer Creek, so the possibility of not having to take the extra day off of work. So it's more of a give and take for me, more about the shows, less about the camping....not like the Gorge where it's a good mix of both. Thanks for the help everyone!

We've done Bong the past few years... which is nice, but the bugs there are awful and the showers often get cold after 8am. IF I make a return to Alpine this year I'm thinking about Snug Harbor.

Why not save everyone some time and just keep a stick of Alpine camping links?
