ok. so the Lolo National Forest will be your best bet, in campsites near Superior, MT, which is super close to the border. There are a few. They are all linked on this page:

the three at the bottom of that list would be ideal. I haven't personally stayed at those, we stayed at a campsite that was an hour down a gravel road, and actually took us back into Idaho, not convenient for what you're doing. (we were meeting up with friends who were fly fishing there)
