I would really like to see Tim utilize the acoustic guitar in the full band setting. Timmy on an acoustic with the full band would be fucking incredible.
yes the tim (acoustic presence) would be terrific

The OP is a fucking idiot. Plus why is his avatar Tim Reynolds as already pointed out? Tim should stay. He honestly just needs to tone down. That's about it.

Just saw this thread for the first time and would like to send a nice and warm "FUCK YOU" to the op. Tim Reynolds is the best thing to have happened to the band in 10 years. The fact that this thread is still floating around is an insult to the band and to it's fans.

I think Tim makes them sound less unique. I love their concerts with Tim, but now they sound more like a generic rock band, which I lament. Give that man an acoustic and I will be all set. I'll be Tim's biggest fan. Until then, bring back the Lovely Ladies.

Somebody will have to explain someday why having an electric guitar in DMB is such a bad thing, especially since they had Tim Reynolds playing an electric guitar during what many say is their best tour ever (winter 98).

For the record, I don't think losing Tim would be a good idea. I like the idea of him with an acoustic, but for the whole show, or even most of it? No way; this is not the quiet band in the corner. This is an aggressive, energetic band and having an electric guitar really fits them.

i agree that tim could tone it down on some of the songs, but taking him away would totally change what this band has become the past 2 years. and not for the better.

    i agree

    remove tim for many songs..

you people are ignorant if you think that tim makes this band more unique.

WITHOUT Tim they are better..I have always said that

now saying that, he brings a lot to the band and I don't MIND having him

I just miss the CORE members (roi) playing funky/earthy music.

    Tim doesn't bring that

yea, i miss roi too. but he's not coming back. get over it.

when was the last time the band had a complete tour with just the core members? winter 2000? it's not happening anytime soon.

i don't see how anyone can argue that the band of today is better without tim.

Agreed; he also may not be a core member, but let's not kid ourselves here. This isn't some hired gun. He was playing with this band back in 92 and 93, and has as close of a creative relationship with Dave as anyone in the band, I'd guess. He's not a core member, but he's the closest anyone in this world comes to one. He's a part of the band, not a sideman.

    this too

the band's better without tim reynolds? who do you think made all of those riffs and fills on the big 3? not dave matthews.

plus, look at dave's riffs when tim is featured on the albums. it's blatantly obvious that tim helps bring out the creative side in dave's guitar playing.

    This is incredibly shortsighted.

The band hasn't played "funky/earthy" music, as a whole, since 2000.

The problem is the band that didn't have Tim from 2001-2007 pretty much sucked. The 2001, 2005, late 2006 and 2007 sets sucked for the most part. The first half of 2003 was sloppy and unlistenable. 2004 was probably the only all-around good year in that entire span.

Now, they don't suck. And it is not a coincidence.

2001 is actually a really good year as far as performance is concerned. Whether you liked what they were playing is a completely different story.

I'm not sure what "funky/earthy" music is, and how DMB hasn't been playing it for ten years. It's a progression, sure, but I don't think they've completely changed their genre. In fact, I'd say with Tim they sound closer to how they did in the late 90s now than they have since 2000.
