I booked a room for 4 at the Congress plaza, which is apparently fewer than 2 miles away from the venue. I can always cancel if things change, just wanted to get something soon. I'm still going to look around at other prices though.

I did the Palmer House Hilton via booking.com. It has a great sale going for it and it's not too much further than the one you did.

I did my booking through booking.com actually after seeing your post, while checking that out I came across the Congress Plaza. I'm going to check out Palmer again. I'm not a fan of the parking costs at all these Chicago hotels Makes me miss camping!

My one upside to doing the show in Chicago. I live in NW Indiana so I can just hop a train and be there in an hour. No parking, no traffic....win!

I''m really hoping that NI has fixed the issues that plagued them last summer. I didn't attend the shows, but they have TERRIBLE reviews.

I heard at the Backstreet Boys concert they had to start late, then didn't finish the set because NI literally turned off their mics at 11. WTF is that!!!!!

I haven't decided between driving or flying, yet. I think for this, though, I'll probably choose flying. Chicago is easy to get around using public transport and even better as you said, no traffic, no parking fees.

Never stayed at Congress but it is in a good location. That's where a lot of people stay for Lolla since it's basically across the street. You wouldn't have trouble getting to NI at all.

I've heard horror stories about the lawn at NI as well, but does anyone have any reviews from good seats at NI?

If you can find a cheap flight, I would definitely fly. I HATE driving in Chicago, and it's so unnecessary. Unless you plan on leaving the city a car is useless. You'll pay out the ass to park your car and then it won't move. Public transport is so much easier, and it's cheap.

I don't have firsthand experience, but from what I've heard the pav seats are good. I won't be on the lawn...not a chance.

I recall hearing about this too but from what I heard it had nothing to do with NI and more with the band and their management? I know they put a video out saying they are sorry and they have something special they will be making up to the Chicago fans.

I live here and I hate driving in it too. Be ready to pay anywhere from $1.00 to $4.00 a hour to park. Overnight paring at hotels is generally around $65.00.

I did the same thing as you did. I just booked a room for 4 at the Congress Plaza. The rates weren't too bad so I will probably just keep this hotel because of how close it is. It is only 1.5 miles away and like you said you can always cancel if for some reason something falls through.

I'll echo the comments about the lawn. I'll attempt to get pavilion seats (small pavilion) through Warehouse, otherwise I'll find a different venue.

looked up the seating chart on stubhub....there are 3 different set-ups...

    http://www.stubhub.com/venue/charter...therly-island/

what are you thinking is most likely?

ALSO...booked a "mini-suite" at the Best Western (easy walking distance). 6 of us squeeze in there for $225/couple for both Fri and Sat night....McCormick Place wanted $500+ PER NIGHT! no thanks...

What did you expect on Forth of July weekend?

Also, keep in mind this is the same time The Taste of Chicago is going on.... or did they change the dates or something as of last year? (I could be wrong on this...)

    t
Also, I'm going to assume the seating chart is going the middle image. This is the one Phish used. The first one is definitely not going to happen since we'll have the pit.

think they'll try and pull the "vip pit" on us again? as with the Caravan shows?

If it doesn't rain, this venue will be great. As others have mentioned, DO NOT sit lawn. Not worth it. Flatter than all hell and if it rains, it will likely be a mess.

As far as seating goes, I'm willing to bet they'll do a GA Floor, just like Phish did. Seems to work out great. If they don't do that, it's folding chairs and those always suck.

Welp no Alpine but this is a 15 minute walk from my condo so not too many complaints here.

Saw some people ask about location and yes it's a safe area...right by Soldier Field. If they keep the back of the stage open (like Dispatch did) it's an incredible view of the skyline.

Oh and ya lawn blows there.

I wouldn't count on it. And what I hate more than GA is seating with a bunch of fold out chairs (which this venue would be if there's seating).

Not sure about the Milwaukee on 7/1.

That would mean he is playing at Summerfest and there is no venue that would be large enough. The Marcus Amphitheater is too small

I'm too old for that shit. I like a designated space. If that's the case and it's all GA, looks like it's Deer Creek for me!

If you can get a room at the Hilton Chicago (on Michigan), The Blackstone Renaissance, or Palmer House I would highly recommend any of these over the Congress Plaza and they are just as close.

Venue is in a very safe area with fantastic views. Not sure if there will be any good tailgating options, there are lots nearby but most people will be taking public transportation over.

Anyone that went to Phish last year - was there any tailgating or preparty?

I live in the city, would prefer to go to Alpine but this will be easier. Venue can have some amazing views.

The "Taste" (which I would avoid at all costs) is always the week of the 4th of July, but they have shortened it starting last year so it might not be.

If you find a good deal at another downtown hotel it would be just as easy to get down there via train, bus, etc (so don't limit yourself to just staying at the ones down by Congress Plaza - it's still a pretty long hike over to the venue)

Any questions about Chicago feel free to message me.

Also, if you stay at a hotel in River North or near Michigan Avenue you will have more stuff close by during the day before the show. There isn't much near the Congress Plaza/Blackstone/etc. Well, not nearly as much as in other areas. Perfectly safe but not my favorite part of the city.

Venue is in a very safe area with fantastic views. Not sure if there will be any good tailgating options, there are lots nearby but most people will be taking public transportation over.

Anyone that went to Phish last year - was there any tailgating or preparty?
