I would fully expect to write the setlist for that show if I gave Dave a ride to the show

    Re: Fan: So Damn Lucky

So this is how it really happened.

I went to the show with my wife and my brother (JTR132). I wanted to make sure that we were parking in the grass lots, so I drove past the entrance and made a right at the Giant Center.. From previous experiences in Hershey I knew there was a small back road that basically brings you back around at the start of the attraction area. I made the turn and as we rounded a bend in the road, my wife spots him first. It was Dave standing on the side of road, next to his bike at the bottom of the hill, as if he waiting to cross the road.

I quickly pulled to the right, my brother yells "Hey Dave!" out of his window, and Dave starts walking towards the car. I got out and ask him if he would mind a few pictures. He says "I'll tell you what, I'll trade you pictures for a ride." He then tells us that he has a flat, and didnt have anything on him, "but, at least I made it to the top of the hill once!" As we are walking towards the car, I'm wondering where the hell I am going to put his bike? We were full of tailgating supplies. That's when Emily and John stopped. I said to Dave, there you go, that car has a bike rack. So he asks them for a lift.

After a few pictures, as he was signing an autograph for us, I told him the show that night was my 75th. He stops, looks at me, and genuinely says "Thank You!" After he got in the car, I asked Emily to drive safely because of the precious cargo. What an awesome guy!

    Re: Fan: So Damn Lucky

On the way to Jam Session in Dewey Beach I got a text that my buddies friend needed a ride to the beach and was stranded on the side of the road. We turned around and drove back up rt.1 a few miles to pick up the guy. Turned out he was the drummer for a popular cover band Kristen and the Noise. When we got to town we got to hang out backstage with the band and get free beer all night.

I know this is nowhere near the same experience but it does pay to be nice and give someone a hand, you never know who they'll be.

Sounds like that was the case for these people as well.

Dave probably deals with so many starstruck people that he knows how to handle that sort of situation.

I'd like to think if I had to give Dave a lift, I'd hand him my iPod and say, "Passenger picks what's on the stereo."

dave's approaching 50 and his phone is not essential to his work so he probably doesnt take his phone everywhere he goes like people in their 30's and younger or business people that have to be connected at all times.
