Re: Alpine Valley Update

For those of you who don't know me, I work in the "industry". Have for 30 years as a systems tech for various production companies. That said, through the grapevine, these are the significant upgrades I've found out recently.

1. More load bearing points to be added in pavilion.

2. Camping to be updated with stationary showers and general store, some electric sites, and a "small" rough camping expansion.

Take it for what its worth. Any other info put there would be great, but it looks like A/V is amping up to give it another run, if not for only another 10 to 15 years. The place needs a complete overhaul. Like gorge did in the early 2000's

I'm surprised they need to add more columns. Granted, I've never been, but from pictures it doesn't seem like the roof is too heavy of a structure. I wonder how this would affect seating / viewing from the lawn.

This is all great news to hear! Glad that they want to make improvements and keep it going rather than let it die.

I think this is due to the fact with the existing structure, a lot of bands can't use their full lighting/stage production because the roof can't handle it, which is one of the issues with acts not booking there. I am guessing this is being done to better equip it to handle stuff like that.

I wish they would put some cabins in on site. The wife doesn't like real camping, so that might be a good compromise.

I wasn't aware of that fact. But, that makes complete sense!

DMB can't put there full fly rig in so the larger tours have no hope as is. This was well over due.

Yeah most likely. The camping helps because I always hated making that commute from hotel to venue and back. Is the camping good??

This is what I've heard before and why I haven't booked it. I hear it's pretty ran down and nasty.

I don't mind paying for a cheaper hotel and a 20 minute drive to be in clean accommodations.

    The photos look rough:

Mason put together a bus when we went; also got us a good bulk rate at a hotel. It was awesome. If we go next year, I assume he will do it again.

The past 2 years we stayed at the Baymont in Waukesha. We got it for less than 100 a night (I wanna say 70-80?) and had maybe a 20 minute drive.

Really wish someone here had some solid inside info on what was going on up there. Even if it were just someone who lives nearby and could vouch that they see things happening inside. Haven't seen a new article on the project since they announced the year off.

It's funny to me that everyone is checking out hotels this far out for a venue we know has competition in NI and no rumors or anything of so.id credibility.
That said I def think alpine wins out over NI if the band returns next yr. alpine can't afford not to get them and will go harrrrrrd to secure them plus of course we know dmb likes it there.
On the hotel side again, is there anything g or reason you would stay at the hotel "on site" outside of a concern? I.e. Wou.d it be vacant all yr this yr since the have no shows? Can't expect them To put money into a place that is being used for prob less then 15 nights a yr even with shows

The onsite hotel at Alpine also includes a ski resort and a golf course. I have never been to either personally, so can't speak to the quality or popularity, but I know it's geared for year round guests

People ski and golf there. A wedding got rescheduled there because of DMB in '16.

I highly doubt rooms are ever in high demand outside of a concert because its kind of a dump, but it's not vacant all year outside of concerts. If they just spend some money to make it nicer, it could be really cool.

Nice. That certainly looks convenient. I live in Chicago, but my family has a place on the Chain O' Lakes and we do a lot of boating there. The Chain is about 30 minutes south of AV. We'll boat during the day and head up to the show and tailgate. Nothing beats it in the middle of the summer.

If you like being on a lake, boating, and partying you really can't beat the Chain. There's a great bar in the middle of Grass Lake called Blarney Island, which has live music 4 days a week too. You can rent a boat there, but you have to be careful. The Chain is pretty crazy.

    Re: Alpine Valley Update

Did Alpine last year for the first time, did the resort; it would be the only way I'd do it again

Terrace camping is the only way we do the Gorge (wife would take Cave B Inn over Terrace)

Alpine Resort is WAY better than camping

About the same price / no camping equipment needed

    Amen brother!

Did you see Trippin Billies play there this summer? It was pretty awesome to pull a boat up and see / listen to some live DMB music.
