Marvel's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (5.6.16)

I though this could justifiably still be separate from the main ongoing MCU thread, because for one thing I think this could very well be Marvel's biggest movie ever. Not just in scope (only thing in the near future that seems like it could possibly compete is Infinity War P2), but it could even beat the Avengers' figure for their opening weekend box office. Mind you, the #1 record currently (& I still say inexplicably) held by Jurassic World might just have by then been beaten by Star Wars and/or BvS.

The first trailer has been screened just within the last couple of hours at Disney's huge in-house expo event, D23. There's still a solid rumor that a proper version of it -- not just a phone filming in the audience -- will surface online by the end of tonight, but here's a description of some of the action.

http://variety.com/2015/film/news/ca...23-1201571004/

Directed by the Russo Bros, written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeeley, each holdovers from Winter Soldier and each will move onto the Infinity War movies, so this gives me all the confidence in the world.

Confirmed cast:
Steve Rogers/Captain America
Tony Stark/Iron Man
The Vision
Clint Barton/Hawkeye
Natasha Romanoff/Black Window
Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch
Sam Wilson/Falcon
Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Scott Lang/Ant-Man
Peter Parker/Spiderman
Sharon Carter/Agent 13
Brock Rumlow/Crossbones
James Rhodes/War Machine
T'Challa/Black Panther
Baron Zemo
General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross

and we still don't know 100% official who Martin Freeman is playing, though smart money is it's someone in the American government related to Wakanda/Africa in some way, as he's expected to also have a big role in Black Panther.

So pumped for this movie. If Marvel can pull this off then they win movies forever. Such a huge subject they are trying to pull off here.

I'd say WB pulling off BvS is a much larger task. If that doesn't succeed, then the whole DC universe is basically doomed.

well and the funny thing is, if you really wanna make that comparison, there WB/DC is trying to do that in just their second film! with Marvel they've built up a shit load of confidence for it already.

Way too many characters, not enough screen time. What a joke, this story is going to suck.

I'd definitely take Iron Man over Cap in a fight. Sure, he's an enhanced soldier, but his powers are no where near Superman; he's still very human. Iron Man has his flying suit of armor that's equipped with all of his little toys. Captain America has a shield.

okay I'm honestly not sure if you're just being sarcastic javier over the course of those few posts or not

First of all, yes it's true, Tony Stark has no inherent "super powers". Neither does Bruce Wayne... *ahem*

and, it ain't like they're coming up with this story completely out of the blue, like just pulling it outta their asses. While yes it's ultimately being changed somewhat (as ALL comic book movies are), it's still coming from the "Civil War" storyline in the original comics. It was there and utilized a whole slew of different characters, fittingly as it was about a fundamental disagreement between most of the heroes of all the Marvel universe. And they certainly had this planned long before Age Of Ultron was a locked film.

Yeah, just being sarcastic, and saying what people were mentioning with the Batman v Superman stuff.

I personally though the original was bad - was AOU even worse?

Not to start a civil war (phun intended), but when MoS is poorly received it's "Disaster! Worst movie ever! Snyder sucks!" but when AoS doesn't pan out quite as expected it's given a pass. Maybe that's not the case but it's how I've perceived it so far.

Well, DC put itself out there a lot more with MOS than Marvel did with AOU. Marvel is basically protected from criticism by eighteen layers of "it's not supposed to be good, it's supposed to be fun!", DC isn't.

Hopefully Civil War is a step back in the right direction, a movie with a Winter Solider type feel and an Avengers type cast could be sensational. If it's just two hours of plugs for less-and-less appealing future releases though....

well but a point I was thinking of, even totally different from that Tom, is that maybe (& even if this isn't necessarily 100% fair) there was a slightly different barometer for Man Of Steel because it was the introductory film in DC's shared universe, so it already had to do a shit load of heavy lifting. So never mind the whole differed tone debate between the studios, but just more that Marvel has a bit more luxury of resting on some laurels, this deep into what they're trying to do.

oh and btw, not sure where that rumor came from of the trailer possibly being online TONIGHT, now apparently that was just a total pipe dream. That that specific trailer might not ever be put out publicly at all, or at best not for a little while yet. And they were really cracking down on piracy, I heard making people ziplock up their cell phones before they showed the thing.

It's gotta be the coolest thing in the world to be Kevin Feige. Millionaire from working comic books. Gotta be the coolest job out there.

Very much looking forward to Civil War. Unlike most, I really enjoyed Avengers 2.

Holy crap, I'm like genuinely stunned here. The first trailer is out! I mean I figured for sure it would technically be available to view online shortly before being ahead of Star Wars in the theaters, but that that time gap would maybe be like 1-2 days. We're still like 3 weeks out from Force Awakens, and we've already got a full Civil War trailer. I suppose maybe technically they're calling it a "teaser", but it's almost 2:30 long.

    right on man.

Yea I saw this over on Collider, and at first I was thinking it would just be a description of what happens in the first trailer, but someone "in the know". And then I was ready to complain for them having a misleading title on the article But yea sure enough, it's the actual trailer. still seems so sudden, but very awesome.

We're still like 3 weeks out from Force Awakens, and we've already got a full Civil War trailer. I suppose maybe technically they're calling it a "teaser", but it's almost 2:30 long.

Doesn't seem like it will follow the comics too closely, but this trailer looks great.

okay I'll just say this right off the bat -- I know plenty have speculated on whether or not someone will die in Civil War. well despite the imagery there, I'm gonna say Rhodey/War Machine ain't dead. I can't imagine they'd give that away in literally the first ever footage from the movie.
