Re: JJ Abrams & Jonathon Nolan's PERSON OF INTEREST on CBS

Have to agree with you junior. The show starts with Finch already tracking the POI of that week. Doesn't show us how he got the job at the dispatch center. Then the voice on the phone was in no way intimidating. And how the hell did the antagonist get the web cam on the headset. Highly disappointing episode.

There was a moment in last night's episode, in the grand scheme of things it was incredibly small, though it helped kickstart things, and it was absolutely ludicrous. At the very start of the show, while the credits were still rolling. Reese, Root and Shaw are walking along the street and talking, Root approaches the dead body on the ground of the guy who jumped off the building in the teaser, there's a cop literally standing right next to it (along with a couple ordinary lookliloos), and Root is allowed to take something off the body and walk away with nobody batting an eye.

What. the fuck. yea, Root has flashed an FBI badge that she stole in the past to get access to certain things, but that wasn't at all the case here. She just walked up, bent down and took the guy's keys in like 3 seconds.

I had 8 episodes in my dvr, finally caught up between last night and tonight. I gotta say, this show always hits it out of the park with their season finales. I have no idea what to expect from where they left off, unbelievable, they really changed the direction of the show, wow.

Hopefully you finished, because the ending to this season was phenomenal.

I laughed too but the machine knew when she should go and get the keys, duh.

Just finished watching S4, other than the 20th episode with Taraji P. Henderson guest starring, I thought overall it was really good. The first 10 eps especially had terrific pacing. Really liked the final two episodes.
13 episodes slotted for S5, hope they ensure the writers and team have enough warning if this is it, to write the ending they want.

Felt Season 3 was the best of the bunch so far, but really good show overall.

I still have not finished the last few episodes of last year. Just sort of lost interest in it. No pun intended lol. Surprised at how dirty CBS did the show though. The mid-year schedule already came out and the show is nowhere to be seen for returning in January, February or March. Wonder if they will cut the episodes down to like 8 or 10? Or Double pump it?

edit: I just saw the show is now scheduled for "Summer" to air for a replacement for the shows they canceled like Under The Dome. Interesting... I will finish the end of season 4 later next year then and lead into the final(?) season

oh yea, I'd kinda been wondering about this lately. I mean I already knew it was a shorter order and they came into the whole thing knowing it was the final run (which I actually kinda prefer, to hopefully give it a meaningful finish) but that surely we had to be getting to a point where even midseason shows were getting debut dates but still no info about it.
But the above poster what you just said, about the summer thing... wow. That's really kind of a flippant and disrespectful treatment of a show with a decent sized run length and to the best of my awareness had solid critical reception from the start. If only it could've been the 19th iteration of NCIS. I'm really kind of shocked this is how they're handling its exit.

Is it really ending? I sort of stopped watching sometime in S3, but I might go back to it to catch up before a big finale.

yep, season 5 was to be the last, with a 13 episode run, so I thought. But whatever the order winds up being, definitely the final go.

They haven't stated yet whether it's the last, it's not owned by the network broadcasting it so could go elsewhere. Whatever they do I just hope they give them time to finish the story how they envisioned finishing it.

The show has had great ratings its entire run, was still averaging between 8-10 million viewers per episode in Season 4, from 10-13 million per episode in Season 1. That's pretty great numbers.

okay I see what you're saying. Yea here in an age where it is becoming a bit more common for older shows to jump ship over onto another venue, that yea strictly speaking from CBS's point of view they definitely said the most renewal they'd be willing to do was the truncated final 5th season. That technically it could then live on somewhere else, but right now I would VERY HIGHLY doubt that it would happen.

and honestly, not sure I'd want to anyway. It feels like they've covered most of the larger scope type of stories they could with such a premise (the only way I'd want them to do it at all), and hell the way season 4 ended, that could've very easily worked as a series finale and I wouldn't have felt cheapened or disappointed or anything. I was pretty much in favor of what they got, which was actually fairly similar to another JJ Abrams EP'd show with Fringe. How they got the order for their final season (coincidentally also the 5th one), it would be a shorter, much tighter and more highly focused run, to finish it all out with purpose.

so while technically it's not 100% confirmed that season 5 is the final go, the writing is pretty much on the wall. But I just can't believe there's still no set time yet for when these episodes will go. There's plenty of other shows with even worse ratings than POI that are getting treated far better and more straight forward.

finally official info on season 5! which will be its last (no shocker there)

The season 5 premiere will be on May 3rd, which is a Tuesday. The second ep will air the following Monday, with the third airing the very next night, that Tuesday. Then starting again the following Monday night, they'll do 2 episodes a week like that (Mon & Tues) until the 13th and final episode in June.

Hope Sarah Shahi is available, she was having twins I think which kept her out of most of the tail end of POI4.
It's rare a show has gotten better every season, hope that continues with the final 13 eps.

I don't think Sara Shahi is necessarily going to be the same kind of constant presence she was before (she's starring in a new version of "Nancy Drew", yet another one hour crime procedural on CBS... ) but word is she'll still be in this season somewhat.

I'm actually perfectly fine with this being the ending, and particularly since they were getting to knowingly wrap up the story with the final, albeit shortened number of episodes (much like Fringe, actually). I feel like there was the danger if they'd tried to go longer, if they were even allowed, that to do so would have had to have opened up the overall story in more outlandish and unrealistic ways. hell even the way they ended season 4, that COULD have also worked as a series finale.

Agreed. While I like the show, wrap it up before you get lost with forcing the story.

Oh yeah I have no desire to see them attempt to drag it out, 13 eps sounds great.

Seasons 3 and 4 have been so good, I look forward to re-watching from the start at some point, maybe just before S5 hits Blu-ray so I can watch in one go. I enjoyed it enough through the first two seasons to keep watching, but holy crap I can't remember another show that escalated so much in intensity, storyline, overall thrill/enjoyment, as POI has done in seasons 3 and 4 vs. seasons 1 and 2. So good.

RT seems to confirm how I feel about the show too, no rating for S2 but S1 is 62% while S3 and S4 are 100%.

Welcome my son...welcome to The Machine!

Looks like I only have to wait until July 19th to see how it all ends - http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=18986

Wonder if they've licensed some NIN music for episode 10 "The Day the World Went Away"

That ComiCon sizzle promo gave me a laugh

I thought it was a good episode. Glad it's back even if it will soon end. The first few seconds they did a good job teasing the end.

That was a pretty sad ending to the last episode. They really are going out guns blazing.

I've never watched this show but I liked Michael Emerson a lot in Lost.

Is this a good show to check out?
