Because Canada has very strict rules as to who they will allow into the country.

I made a really, really dumb decision 9 years ago. I took full responsibility and accepted every single consequence that resulted from that terrible decision, including not being allowed into Canada for a decade.

My decade ban just expired this past October. I can officially go to Canada now!


edit: It's actually a decade after you complete your sentence, not a decade after your arrest, or a decade after your conviction. That was the real kick in the crotch to learn.

I guess my overall point is that most industrialized countries protect their borders. I know JT has been in the news lately saying how accepting they are but they're really not at all. And this all goes back to the illegal immigration debate. It just seems that other countries act like they're so warm to outsiders when they're really not at all.

Neither of these matter. You're still there illegally and they will ship you back to the US. They make it clear that you're not welcome. That's the beginning and end of borders. The fact that you're middle class has, literally, nothing to do with it.

i can't go to Canada, ever. apparently.

i got put in a holding cell when i tried to go across the border for lunch. they held me for an hour, searched my rental car, then had someone from some main city call me on the jail phone and tell me i was being released to go back to ND and not to ever try to enter again.

that was real fun explaining to our US Border guys upon my return....

it's a paperwork bureaucratic mess. but i don't care enough to spend the time or money to fix it.

I can go to Canada (been twice in the last 2 years). Their visitation rules are still dumb and I don't use that as evidence as to how America should run their immigration system since we are a different country.

I've occasionally driven through Canada when heading to NY from MI. It's a shorter route, but the time it takes to cross the Peace bridge back into the US just isn't worth it

Toronto & Montreal are nice, Quebec and Ottawa are okay - never really been to the rest.
