I'm cool with the Superfriends moniker...just as an aside.

Sony/Marvel thing continues to be a mess. Recently Feige was asked about Venom and stated: "For now, there is no plan for Venom in the MCU. It’s a Sony project.”

    Then this happened:

    https://twitter.com/comicfade/status/876443828370255874

Kevin doesn't seem to be on the same page as Amy Pascal, but Sony is seemingly going to try and make these feel like they take place inside the MCU... just no Spider-Man.

Pascal sounded like she thought there was a chance they could even get Tom Holland to appear in some of these movies. All early indications were that Tom Holland would not be a part of any Sony spinoff films, but I think that was based on Feige's early comments about the MCU not having any involvement in these spinoff films.

Sony basically wants to use Marvel to rehabilitate Spider-Man, and then use that Spider-Man to jumpstart their own universe. My guess is they are thinking they can have Tom Holland appear in Venom or Black Cat as a brief cameo to establish that link, but that all stories in Venom or Black Cat would be unrelated and would not even mention events that happen in other films. Whether that can happen logistically with the way the contract is written up, I have no idea, but that seems to be what Sony is up to.

It doesn't look bad, but I'm not dying to see more. I love Netflix Marvel stuff, but on the ABC end it's meh. I hope when the IMAX stuff is done the rest of the episodes don't nosedive with the effects budget. After last season of Shield I'd rather have a Ghost Rider show than Inhumans.

Meh - I hate ABC shows. Everything looks so clean cut and over produced. It just feels Hollywood and fake.

That said, I like the Inhumans concept and Ramsay Bolton so I may tune if I hear some positive reviews.

I finally gave up on Agents of Shield this year....made it halfway through Luke Cage this year and did not even attempt Iron Fist.

I will watch the Defenders though.

Spider-Man Homecoming off to a blazing start on Rotten Tomatoes with 25 positive and 1 troll. Seems like the general consensus is that it is a small stakes movie with a lot of John Hughes like High School environment.

Best quote I saw was it was a Superhero movie mashed with Can't Hardly Wait.....which may be one of my absolute favorite movies from when I was in High School. I am now very excited to see this next week!

Shield was broken up into 3 sections: I actually liked the Ghost Rider stuff, but just wanted more Ghost Rider. The LMD section was terrible. The Framework actually was the most popular section and the ratings went way up hence the renewal. I didn't love it as much as others, and I could live without the show.

Luke Cage I think has potential to get better if they can develop worthwhile villains. I just didn't care about anything that was happening. I suffered through Iron Fist because of the Defenders. So much potential but man is Finn Jones bad.

A buddy of mine simply referred to it as "the goddamned truth" on Facebook.

Collider's review also called it arguably the best Spider-Man iteration to date, with Peter Travers calling Tom Holland "the best movie Spider-Man ever."

As you noted though, MCU critics beware: it's said to be very low-stakes and (*gasps*) funny.

It will probably have a lot of Bathos in it....which may rattle some of the Super-Friends.

Zep....I gave up right at the end of LMD/Beginning of the Framework. I just couldn't do it anymore....I think they are all on the DVR but not sure I will ever watch them....I have literally no motivation....I enjoyed the show originally since it would kind of sync with the big releases but now it just can't hold my attention.

people will certainly be rattled, but I think I've seen the DC people mention that spiderman has a bit more leeway with the humor

Yeah I have no problem with humor in CMBs at all. Wonder Woman was the perfect example of how the humor flowed naturally from the characters' personalities. The main thing I, and probably most MCU critics to some extent, have had a problem with is the overuse of forced quips that are not organic to the conversation happening on screen or to deflate tension in an otherwise dramatic moment.

I posted a video in the DCEU thread which sort of goes into this and summarizes my thoughts on it pretty succinctly.

Either way, you sort of expect quips and humor out of Spiderman since that's what his character has always been. Definitely more leeway for that in a Spidey movie. That being said, story is always the most important thing and right now the story they've advertised does not really catch my attention in any significant way.

I wanted to quit with the LMD stuff as well. I don't know why I stuck with it, but at least the ending of the season was really interesting. Maybe I should quit now because I'm sure however they explain it will just leave me disappointed.

Honestly most of these shows are meh. I don't know why I stick with the Flash, probably just because I really like the character, but the CW shows are tough to stomach. I'm still not over the musical. Cloak & Dagger and the Runaways seem to be following the teen drama CW formula. I think the Gifted is leaning teen friendly as well.

I really like Gotham, but it's very up and down. I'm not sure why we need Shield or Inhumans right now. Krypton looks semi-interesting but I probably won't watch it. I think Defenders will have a tough time given how no one seemed to finish Iron Fist, and its pretty much a catalyst for the Defenders. A lot of people will start that off missing a lot of story.

Legion is hands down the best superhero show on TV right now, and I think Punisher is the only one with a chance to top it.

I had to quit holding it up to canon and view it as an alternate universe for it to make any sense. Otherwise I'd have way too many questions to ask about why X character is in their 30's in this, etc etc. I just consider it an alternate Earth in the multiverse.

It has great episodes but there's just so many bad. The end run hits a stride that's bringing me back for next year, but they'd honestly be better off doing about 14-15 episodes a season.

If they release another Fantastic Four movie Marvel needs to sue* them. It's time to let that franchise go.
