Glen Hansard

I have become a huge fan of his...Has an incredible voice and is a great songwriter. He has never really become mainstream or even close it seems. Any other fans of his on here? If there are people who want to check him out for the first time He has one solo album, two in a duo called "Swell Season", and also is lead singer of an irish band called "The Frames".

Great artist. I randomly came across this youtube video a while back where he tells a story about Jeff Buckley (a favorite of mine), the Sin-E set up and ends up singing a song that he wrote for him. It's a great song too.

Wow no one ever talks about this guy. I've wanted to see him (or The Swell Season) and haven't had the chance but he's coming to Ann Arbor in September so I'm for sure gonna have to go.

My show was Saturday and it was great. I've never seen a crowd so respectful during a show. During the opener, who I actually enjoyed, no one around me had their phones out or talking during the opening act which you never see. Then during Glen's set there was once he unplugged his guitar and stood on the edge of the stage and played and everyone was quiet and you could hear him singing. I was in the 6th row and could hear the guitar, don't know if people in the balcony could or not but either way quiet enough to hear anywhere is amazing. He put on a great show. Great storytelling, great stage presence...everything. Have a great time.

I've seen him 7 or 8 times over the years going back to a free show in NYC on the South Street Seaport in 2004 and culminating with Carnegie Hall last week. He's the same dude that learned to play on the streets of Dublin when he dropped out of school. Just amazingly generous to his fans and everyone.

I always point people to a tribute he wrote for his good friend Mic Christopher, which really shows you who Glen is (also, check out Mic Christopher on YT and other places, his work is amazing and he would have been as big or bigger than Glen had he not passed).

I became a fan of his when he was part of The Frames. Must have been back in the early 2000's. Really good stuff. After he moved on from that band I haven't followed him too much sadly. I did see him open for Eddie Vedder back in like 2011 or whenever it was that Eddie did that national solo tour. Never saw Once, but I had always heard good things about it. Not sure why I never saw it considering I was always a fan of Glen's.

Saw him do a Lolla after show in 2014. His catalog is massive just a songwriting machine. It was a little mellow for a 2am set but I really enjoyed it.

Saw him twice this year. The one in March was a night in the round. He did an interview with a radio dj and then preformed a set. Sat about 5 feet from him. He's in my top 3 for live shows. He's incredible. I love his raw emotion when he performs.

That is excellent, thanks for sharing. I haven't looked into his work since he went solo. Looks like I have a ton of music to catch up on. I even saw that The Frames released a new album at one point for their 25th anniversary.

That'll make a nice Xmas present. He was doing a lot of live hours on insta at the start of this whole quarantine, but hasn't done one in a while. Maybe he will with the release of this.
I'm trying to think how many times I've seen him.
2008 - Swell Season at Chicago Theatre
2011 - Solo at Millennium Park
2013 - Solo at the Metro
2015 - Solo at Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee
2018 - Solo at the Riviera Theatre
2019 - Solo in the round at Thalia Hall, Solo at Chicago Theatre

I don't know why I wouldn't have gone in 2016 or 2017. I had tickets to The Frames 30th Anniversary show in September, but that was postponed.

Funny story. I had a solo ticket to see Eddie Vedder at the PPAC in June of 2011. As it turned out, it was also Game 7 of the Bruins game against Vancouver in the Stanley Cup Finals. I almost skipped the show to see the B's but figured the show would end and the game would still be on. Glen performed with Eddie I believe. During the show they would bring scores out occasionally and the Bruins led the whole way so of course the crowd would go bonkers. The hardcores following the game on their phones or radios during the show would randomly cheer when the Bruins would score. Anyways, a fun show and a great night as the Bruins brought the Cup home. We all (or a lot of us) ran across the street to a bar to see the last 30 minutes of the game after the show as the game was indeed still on.

    Here's the setlist:
