Have a good show tonight. The last two shows have been pretty similar in sets, so would expect more of the same tonight.

TOOL at Governer's Ball?!?! Not sure I want to shell out festival money to see them. Really hoping they announce other area shiws.

Been seeing more and more articles pointing towards '2017 being a lock for a new TOOL record'. However, with nothing really concrete to build on other then the aforementioned headlining act at Governors Ball this summer and a recent interview with Justin Chancellor (link below), who the fuck knows.

Tool are my fiancee's favorite band. She saw them last weekend at NYC. Said they were awesome as always. I wanted to go as well, but my Scuba class got in the way.

Apparently, the band is done with the music, but are waiting on MJK for lyrics and his touch. According to a lot of fans and sources, he is more interested in his side projects and had to basically be "tricked" (whatever that means) into playing the Governor's Ball.

BTW, that was all from what my fiancee told me

The band, or management, redid the website:

    https://www.toolband.com

Pretty cool and a big step up from what they did have. Also, anyone out in Southern California should seriously consider hitting up the June 24th show. Tool with about 5-6 other bands, including Primus, The Crystal Method and the Melvins.

Went and saw a TOOL cover band last week, Schism. They were really good and would recommend seeing them if you live in the NE. However, just like any cover band, they are not perfect, they just give it their all and have fun. Here is their Facebook page to check out info and videos from some of their more recent shows.

Saw my first Tool concert this summer, it was incredible. Next time I will not get so smashed before the show.

Also, are they always that short? seems like they played for what felt like an hour and a half.

Yes... typically last btwn 1.5- barely pushing 2hrs song/show time. I'm thinking a lot more work goes into Tool's stage/vis live production than DMB's.

.... but looks like we have an official race here folks... DMB (projected Summer release)... Tool (projected before "end of 2018").
Gonna make for an interesting year of new music from some timeless bands!

Back-history of "new album" talk -- scroll to bottom. Maynard contradicts Carey in December 2017. So, sure "lyrics coming in hard," but MJK has a different take (and there's a good reason why: APC).

    Quote:
"The cool thing is every time I think I've simplified it as much as I can, we'll give it to Maynard and he'll do something even more simplified – to the point where practically anyone can sing it," the drummer said. "It’s simple shit and it's coming out, man. The tracks are long ... too long! Definitely too long for the radio."
Here's yer sign. Tracks too long. Not a bad thing, but, going to take time.

Further confirmed at the bottom of the next article link (below)...

    ==========

    New APC confirmed inbound ...

Anyone else notice the tour dates coming in May? Tool Music Clinic dates. $500 per ticket, looks like Q&A and maybe a show, although I don't see MJK mentioned in the description.

    Quote:
AN IMMERSIVE DISSECTION WITH DANNY CAREY, JUSTIN CHANCELLOR AND ADAM JONES

Tool, one of rock music’s most mysterious and speculated about bands, give fans a rare glimpse behind-the-scenes via a series of intimate music clinics. The discussions include drummer Danny Carey, bass player Justin Chancellor and guitar player Adam Jones walking attendees through a handful of the band’s songs, from the process of writing them to playing them live. Audience members are encouraged to ask questions via an open discussion, as well as mingle with the band following the session.

That looks pretty amazing. I will forward that along to my wife. She loves Tool.

Why is Maynard James Keenan so protective of Tool but not APC? A friend told me it has something to do with the album cover artwork. Any truth to that?

Not sure abuot why or if it just MJK with TOOL, or if the whole band is more protective. I do know there was some legal issues with their music/artwork that took years of haggling to sort out. So that might have something to do with it. This July 2014 article touches on the then-still pending legal action that was still on going and a follow up article on MX Down from March 2015 stating the band won the lawsuit.
