"I spy with my vinyl eye..." I love that pressing! I got that a couple weeks after last year's RSD, I believe (maybe a bit longer after that, actually), but it was on sale for $39.99 and I had some trade-in cash, so I got it for significantly less than the $99.99 MSRP.

I picked it up on Saturday, at the second store we visited, totally unexpected find in the wild. Always had my eye out for this album, and could never find it. Now, it's mine! Beautiful packaging, too!

For those that have the pro-ject debut carbon how is it compared to the audio-technica AT-LP60? Worlds better?

I think Alex summed it up when comparing it to his previous AT-LP120.

So after about 5 hours, I've finally put all of my records on Discogs. Please, check out my collection, let me know what you think and friend me. I'm gonna say not bad for only actively been collecting for about 2 years.

Yeah not even close. The difference in sound was noticeable immediately after I dropped the needle on the first record I played on the Carbon. I had my Audio Technica for 5 years and loved it. They are great starter tables. But the difference in performance between that and even an entry level audiophile table (Pro-Ject Debut III or Debut Carbon, Rega RP1, Music Hall MMF 2.2, etc.)is like night and day.

I think the Carbon is the best value for the money out of that group due to the carbon fiber tonearm and as Doby pointed out, the pre-fitted Ortofon 2M Red cartridge which goes for $90-$100 on its own.

I saw a copy of Red and Speak Now at the second record store I hit on Saturday, and honestly, I was considering getting either one or both, but I found other things that I wanted more.

Edit: They would have been more for the wife than me, especially Red. Speak Now I can handle a little more, I think.

I have two young girls at home, so I picked up Red a while ago. I've never knew there was a pressing for Speak Now, I need to stay on the look out for it. The girls love having friends over and getting that out for a spin. Most of their friends have never seen a record, so they are totally amazed. I like to think I'm planting seeds for future vinyl lovers.

As I'm still a noob in the vinylverse, I'm assuming I'm doing something very wrong by not having a preamp and just using the built in preamp on my turntable. With that, any suggestions for a preamp that I should aim for?

Seemed like these guys have a decent, simple, and cheap selection to choose from, know nothing about the quality though.

Very cool site - I've never visited that before but they have a lot of stuff, some very affordable!

I don't have a pre-amp currently so I don't have any first hand experience with them - Doby might be able to give the best insight. I have been looking at them, I've been targeting the Pro-Ject Phono Box series only because it makes sense that it would pair well with my Debut Carbon. But I would imagine that even some of the lower priced models at the site you posted there would probably be a pretty significant improvement over the built-in preamp on your AT. Funnily enough in all the years I had my AT I never once turned on the pre-amp so I have no idea how it sounds!

I have no basis for comparison so it seems fine to me, but I have a feeling that I'm hindering my experience to some degree as I just have it hooked into a home theater receiver without a phono input.

From what Doby has told me in the past, a pre-amp will give you a nice improvement even when using a receiver that does have a phono input. I don't think you'd regret picking one up at all.

That's what's so awesome and frustrating about this hobby at the same time, just when you get your system to where you think you want it, you start reading up on other stuff that you want to try to add on...then you do it, hear the difference and want even more!

I bet it sounds fantastic! I'm looking for a nice vintage Pioneer or Marantz receiver/amp for my next hardward addition.
