Re: The National

I'd be surprised if they didn't do a bigger nationwide fall/winter tour.

I love how Aaron Dessner has his hands on so many good albums and up-and-coming bands. Didn't know he produced Local Natives' latest album.

This looks cool for Boston folks:

Aaron Dessner is leading a festival. I'm not sure I want to spend $120 to primarily see them, but then I saw that second day and wow

So, question for everyone. No matter how good the new album is, do you think it could ever replace your favorite National album?

For example, Alligator will always be #1 for me, but HV, Boxer, SSFDL, and even the Cherry Tree EP are all spectacular...but since Alligator was the first I heard of them, it just holds that special place.

And I'm also sure I'm the only person I know of who's favorite song is "Friend of Mine".

I'm not in particular love with one single album. Really just in love with all of the Big 3. I loved High Violet.

Very excited for this and glad they added a Boston date where I can also see The Walkmen and Of Monsters and Men for the first time.

Yeah I'm pretty equally in love with all 3 major releases. A great new album in May would have to be out of this world to supplant those, but I can very easily see it becoming the Big 4. My expectations are so high after the last 3 albums that I'm afraid I'm gonna be let down.

    No, nothing would replace Boxer.

    I like Friend of Mine

Boxer is most consistant album, but it kind of falls off at the end.

High Violet's got some duds, but some really high highs.

Alligator is more raw and youthful and I think it closes the best. All the wine - Abel - Geese - City Middle - Mr. November is their best run. (DAMN)

Love this band. This is a band that I don't want to change to much musically.

I do want the next album to be less gloomy than High Violet though. If Sullivan/Prime are an indication of what's to come, then I'll be very happy.

If Racing/Ada/Gospel is supposed to be falling off, then Boxer is the greatest album of all time.

    3 five star songs, tbh.

Totally agree with your assessment of the 3 albums. Boxer is probably my fave, but I tend to skip the end moreso than I do on the other 2.

I think the high points on High Violet might best the high points on Boxer for me, but it's really close and as an album Boxer wins.

    Yeah this...

Ada is probably their best song.

Let's make a Super Album. 12 songs, pick from any of their songs.

Though I think most of mine would come from Boxer.

They added some tour dates, one of them being Red Rocks.

Be nice if they did the traditional "Release a live album from Red Rocks" thing.
