where in that article does it say critical condition? All I see anywhere is that nobody knows how serious it is.

All this coming off there being rumors that the band is headed to the studio soon to record and hopefully tour starting in January.

    Get better Big Man!!!!!!

    Hope he pulls through.

He's been kind of sick for a while though hasn't he? (Not that that makes it better.) Didn't realize how old he was till now.

I guess the stroke was a major stroke. He had two brain surgeries last night but:

"The latest out of Florida has Clarence Clemons in better condition than anyone expected, a close friend tells Backstreets: "Yesterday, it did not look good at all. Today... miracles are happening. His vital signs are improving. He's responsive. His eyes are welling up when we're talking to him. He was paralyzed on his left side, but now he's squeezing with his left hand. This is the best news we've heard since [the stroke] happened — it's nothing short of miraculous. The next five days will still be critical. But he's a fighter.""

    Get well soon, Big Man.

I really hope we don't have a leroi situation...Clarence "gets better" but something later ends up happening. Of course his touring days are most likely over at this point, but we can all hope his life isn't.

Just read about Clemons passing away. Sad news, but you could sort of see it coming. When I saw them play in '08, he was pretty limited in his stage action, even taking to a chair onstage for songs he didn't play on. That said, I'm glad I did get to see him, and despite his physical limitations, he was still playing great, and I've no doubt that continued up to the end.

    Terrible news.

But I'm incredibly thankful I got to see him play twice in Buffalo, including what turned out to be the last E-Street Band concert he did. I had a sneaking suspicion that the last concert I saw was going to be his last E-Street Band performance...

    Wish I was wrong.

    RIP.....

Same here. Going to other shows this summer, most of the people I've met have all seen the E Street band. All I kept saying was how much my life would be complete if I got to see them just once.

"Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the oppurtunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band." - Bruce Springsteen

That last part makes it sounds like the band isn't done, just like when Danny died. Clarence's son plays sax just like him. That's the last thing I'm worried about now though

story of how Clarence and Bruce met as told by Clarence:

"One night we were playing in Asbury Park. I'd heard The Bruce Springsteen Band was nearby at a club called The Student Prince and on a break between sets I walked over there. On-stage, Bruce used to tell different versions of this story but I'm a Baptist, remember, so this is the truth. A rainy, windy night it was, and when I opened the door the whole thing flew off its hinges and blew away down the street. The band were on-stage, but staring at me framed in the doorway. And maybe that did make Bruce a little nervous because I just said, "I want to play with your band," and he said, "Sure, you do anything you want." The first song we did was an early version of "Spirit In The Night". Bruce and I looked at each other and didn't say anything, we just knew. We knew we were the missing links in each other's lives. He was what I'd been searching for. In one way he was just a scrawny little kid. But he was a visionary. He wanted to follow his dream. So from then on I was part of history."
