And it seems we'll get an interview too. I expect a lot of political talk.

Doesn't necessarily mean a D&T exclusive. The first new song from AFTW was on a late night show without the rest of the band.... (Mercy)

You're kidding, right? He's probably the most political late night talk show host. He always talks about it during his monologues and with the guests.

Cool news. Wouldn't be surprised if they play Samurai Cop or another newer song. I know some political talk is inevitable, as much as it frustrates me.

The real question is: Would it still frustrate you if you agreed with Dave's views.

    Answer: no.

    Answer: yes.

I don't like when politics mix with music, sports, or anything else in popular culture, regardless of where I stand on the issues. Celebrities should not abuse their platforms to promote a political agenda, regardless of what that agenda entails.

Why? They are the people with the greatest influence over the general public. If they are passionate about politics they should absolutely share those views.

Yep. If you get butthurt that a celeb talks politics thats your issue. They are free to talk about it just as you or I are.

Its so easy to just tune it out or ignore it.

And abuse their platforms? They have a platform, they are people, they are free to do with it as they wish.

People don't go to concerts or watch sports games to be lectured on politics. Obviously Dave and anyone else is entitled to share their opinion. But Dave's opinion isn't more relevant than mine or yours. Thus, it seems ridiculous to me that someone like Dave would be invited onto a talk show only to be asked political questions. What political authority does Dave have? Absolutely none. This doesn't mean he's not allowed to share his opinion, but it seems like there's no dimension of life that isn't political right now. I just wish everyone had a better sense of where politics is appropriate and where it isn't.

I was just as rattled by Meryl Streep's Oscar speech as I was by the singer with the Trump dress at the Grammy's. Let music be music and let politics be politics. I don't see any reason to combine the two.

If politics and music were never combined, a lot of good music in the 60's/70's wouldn't have been created. FWIW.

Anyways, with respect to this guest spot, I wonder if Timmy will get some dialogue. Would be cool if they played something older, or maybe OSW with the intro

Never understood why people get so bent out of shape about artists talking politics or what have you. Like TLP said, they have the same right we do to talk about it, but it just so happens they're on TV or stage. There's quite a few people on these boards that have an entire thread dedicated to Trump and his administration, but it's not being publicized or televised, so it's alright? Same thing, different forum. Not only that, but to make a comparison, look at what an interesting time the 60s were. How many times have you met someone our age (late 20s-40s) that has said, "man I wish I lived in the 60s", or "the 60s were the best era of music" etc. etc. Look at how politically charged the music was back then. Young people that didn't agree with what was going on with their government, or the conflict in Vietnam were looking for people to voice their frustrations and concerns, and that's what so many artists were back then. Why should that be any different now? Because now we have social media where EVERYONE can mouth off their opinions? Free country, freedom of speech, and celebrities and artists have the same rights we do.

See my other post, but if the above is what you're looking for then there's plenty of music for you on the Top 40 stations you might be interested in. Sometimes music and politics DO go hand in hand. What's great about music is that it's more than just a handful of chords thrown together with a beat in the background. There's meaning to so many people. It's an expressive art form. Some people choose to write about candy canes, parties in the USA, or just simply want someone to call them, maybe. Then you have sex, love, broken hearts, drug and alcohol abuse, God, death and loss, politics, heritage, friendship, the meaning of life and on and on.

Who said Dave's opinion is more relevant than yours? It's not, but it's still his opinion and if he believes in it, has a crowd of 20,000 people standing in front of him and a microphone, why not share it and try to reach someone he thinks might make a difference? Generally the guy is pretty peaceful and his views tend to be about bringing people together in a positive way. There's politics and differing opinions that sometimes get in the way of that, but I don't see the harm in trying to spread a positive message.

How about songs like Ohio - Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young? Fortunate Son - CCR? Respect - Aretha Franklin? For What its Worth - Buffalo Springfield? The Times They are a Changing - Bob Dylan?

All politically or socially charged songs.
