The Americans

I expected her to be killed and I was disturbed. Just how it was all one shot killing her and then just picking her body up and that was it without looking away for any part of it.

Did a great job doing what it was supposed to do

I just now watched (so glad I stayed out of this thread for a couple weeks as I was behind) and I think I said "holy fuck" three times. Obviously she was in a lot of trouble and I am not shocked that she didn't make it but I wasn't expecting that in ep 4.

I thought the last 2 episodes have been filler territory. this Martha story line is getting dragged out too long here. Also, Gabriel just lets her leave the house? Yeah, that would never happen.

Yeah I agree on the filler episodes. It moved the plot a bit but they've pushed off the "action" a few times this season already.

Stan physically saw the gun. They could play it a couple ways. Russians could kill her via other means and Phil has the gun laying around the house by accident...take it from there. I don't think phil wants to kill Martha. he barely even wants to kill pastor tim. Can't see him giving anyone the gun to pull the trigger.

at some point the show has to turn on phil and liz.

I guess we're supposed to believe that he wasn't physically capable of keeping her there, so what could he do? Even if he had a gun, shooting her in the middle of the street probably wouldn't have worked either.

this show is killing me right now. 3 episodes of no real development. Did TWD writers need off season jobs?

Wow, really? There have not been a ton of significant plot developments... but I have thought the character work, tone, and the overall sense of dread hanging over the last couple episodes has been compelling. I've been on the edge of my seat, with last night's in particular.

yeah, for a show that has had resolution every other episode or so they are really dragging out plot development.

I agree there haven't been many developments, but I feel like it's warranted. The Martha story has been building to this point for 2 years. Plus there's the added tension of Phil running around without his disguise while Stan is in the exact same park. I'm glad they taking the time to really let us feel the tension and the emotional impact of this story.

I get what you are saying about the Walking Dead, but in my opinion, the Walking Dead has really weak characterization, so when you ask an episode (or several) to lean completely on character work instead of plot, it never works on that show. Here, though, the characters and the issues are so compelling that it has really been working for me the last couple weeks.

it's just not good characterization though. we're not learning anything new about phillip through his actions. nor Elizabeth or Martha. During Breaking Bad we at least saw the downward spiral of Walt get worse, Hank/Jesse becoming more righteous, etc.

the ONLY thing we are learning is what the FBI is gathering about Martha, which is fine, but 3 episodes worth?

Man.. you guys are crazy. The Phil/Martha scene at the end... Martha calling her parents... heartbreaking stuff. Glad they're not rushing through it.

How about the underage drinking at Stan's house?!

I'm not saying the scenes are not good, they're well acted and the tension comes through, I'm just saying we've learned nothing over 3 episodes we didn't already know (or could infer). Even the FBI is no closer to understanding who the KGB is.

unless there are pictures of Elizabeth with it on...it's kind of a dead end for him

Though I thought the Martha story would wrap sooner, I have to agree that last night's episode which I watched this morning was quite tense, emtional, and so very good. It's amazing I still root for philip and Elizabeth so much. I was on the edge of the couch hoping Philip got the hell out of the park before Stan saw him. Aren't I supposed to be rooting for the Feds.

I really like this show so much. Might be my current favorite. Top 3, at least.
