Re: Will Facebook disappear?

FB will have a much longer life than Myspace because it's more mature.

As innovative and important as it has been, at its core its a passing fad just like so many other things....despite how much its "worth".

I can't wait for it to go away, I'm not a fan.

I just don't agree social networking is a passing fad. People like to be connected and the internet is not going anywhere, so why would people's innate sense of that change? As long as Facebook stays on the cutting edge of what people want in social networking, there is no reason it will disappear for a while. Yes, another social network can certainly come along but historically (only 6-7 years, I know) Facebook has been on the forefront of social network innovation.

Rockmelt is a good look at what Facebook browser will be like.

A few months back Facebook recruited Matt Papakipos out of Google who headed up Chrome, so it is safe to say Facebook will be in the browser space very soon.

The downfall has begun, I feel the same way, it was only a matter of time. Is there any word on the next social network, I hope some nerd has started it.

well and the conversation to the new profile is apparently mandatory starting today. I'd been holding off doing it, the first look I got a couple weeks ago I was a little turned off by, and then I heard some friends' comments that weren't thrilled so I thought alright I'll wait until they make me. That seemed to occur early this afternoon when I clicked on my bookmark and I automatically already had the new layout.

And, it looks as though when you're leaving a comment on someone else's post, there's no "comment" button/link for you to click on when you're finished writing, you just hit the 'enter' button when you're finished typing and it automatically posts it to their wall. Don't think I like that, for one thing that seems to eliminate paragraph breaks (what I was trying to do today when I hit the enter button and it posted it early).

Shift + enter should allow you to use paragraph breaks.

Okay hang on now I'm confused -- I just logged back into my page for the first time in a few hours and my wall was back to normal, it was the previous layout.

Things that pissed me off recently on Facebook, the new profile changes, people can now just go on your page and see the actual comment you left on an update or a persons wall, before it would just mention the person you did that to, the cartoon character updates, the one that drove me nuts though was the # game that people were playing, a lot of people got hidden because of that.

If people get rid of theirs because they simply don't want it anymore for whatever reason, that's cool, I just laugh anymore at those who go on and on about how "totally lame and gay the whole thing is", yada yada yada... it's such a fucking tired shpiel anymore.

I wonder is Fincher and Sorkin will team up for another movie based on the next Social Network(still can't believe they made a movie about Facebook). I can see it now, The Social Network 2.0-this time its personal.

    Re: Will Facebook disappear?

I don't get why people hate Facebook so much. Just don't use it if you think it's stupid. And having said that, I could totally understand how some people would find it sort of lame and useless. I personally think its pretty great from a social standpoint but from an entertainment business standpoint I think it is an INCREDIBLE tool. Between what I do with my band, what I've seen other people do with their artists and how I see actors, comedians, etc also benefit from it, there is really no reason not to be on. Unless of course you don't deal with any of that, or want to. But in general, making fun of facebook is silly because it is an extremely important cultural thing and an extremely important tool for upcoming artists in all mediums. (as long as they don't spam and get annoying like a bunch of cunts.)
