Better version of WWYS?

I haven't heard what I consider an "old school" version of "What Would You Say?" until I recently purchased the DMBLive release of 3-26-1994, and it was awesome. It features a sweet little breakdown section where each member alternates getting a little solo, a la "Recently." Also instead of a normal 'Roi solo during the funky breakdown there is some Dave improv scatting, and a completely different outro/sax solo section.

Great stuff, but for those of you that have heard these older versions of WWYS, do you prefer that arrangement or the more classic arrangement that appears on all the Live Trax and Live in Chicago etc. etc.

"Old School" is awesome. But Roi has to have his solo.

I love the old school versions, Dave's little break with the vocals is awesome. LiC is best though. Maceo Parker's solo is too funky!

    Re: Better version of WWYS?

Maceo Parker's solo on Live in Chicago is one of my all-time favorite sax-solo's. It just builds up so well and fits so well with that funky groove Dave, Carter, and Stefan lay down. I absolutley love what Jeff has brought to the band and he probably would've been my #1 pick for a replacement for 'Roi, but Maceo would've been a close 2nd.

Edit: Probably a lot less chemistry with Maceo though, seeing as how he has only guested that one time (I might be wrong about that, but very few times at least)

It's an oxymoron to try and say that there's a good version of WWYS.

I really like the old school versions of the song. However, Piedmont Park has an absolutely great WWYS as well.

Great stuff, but for those of you that have heard these older versions of WWYS, do you prefer that arrangement or the more classic arrangement that appears on all the Live Trax and Live in Chicago etc. etc.
Definitely old school, then any Popper version. There's a very nice SBD on DMB Stream from the Athens GA show on 4-6-1994 - I fast-forward to the funky breakdown every time I listen to it
