FB Group - weird encounters

Genuinely had one of the weirdest encounters I've ever had, with anyone, real or virtual, on a DMB Facebook group. In this group, someone posts the first line of a song, and then the other members say the next line, and the next etc....

The first responder posted the next line but with a couple of words in the wrong order, and the next person put a line from the chorus I think. I found this kind of amusing and called it a trainwreck (2/2 attempts wrong is a fairly tame effort, right?), a couple of other people thought it was funny too. I then got the following emails. Am I going bonkers or is this normal?

"Please delete all of your comments

==hey buddy, how come?!

Because it messes up the flow

==hahahaha, really?!

Yea really

==it's kind of a fun discussion

You're the only one talking... bashing other members

==that's not really a fair conclusion though...... are people really that afraid to be wrong now that correcting is seen as bashing?

Life isn't fair
You aren't being kind
We practice kindness around here

==i'm not being unkind! i like kindness - i was making an observation i thought was amusing how much of a trainwreck it was. life isn't meant to be THAT serious, surely?
maybe it is!

I deleted the entire post

==fair enough - deleting the whole thing seems like a decent compromise. yeah good idea! much tidier

But it's people like you that make it no fun

==i say things how i see them, maybe that's a british thing. i'm never knowingly unkind. i'm a good friend of a bunch of people here, they would all vouch for me. this experience has been a bit weird!

Please don't be that way again

==no fun in what way? i genuinely like getting feedback because i don't want people not to enjoy my company (real or virtual)

That wasn't fun... nor was it funny. That's trolling and ruining things for others

==hang on - what bit was trolling? i'm genuinely not sure i understand!

Constantly posting on the thread, calling someone a train wreck... maybe that was something that made her smile... because she knew the words... close enough

==i wasn't calling someONE a trainwreck, i was calling our collective effort a trainwreck
i would never call somebody a trainwreck, that would be horrible!!!
somebody else agreed it had "gone to shit" or something as well, so it wasn't just me who thought it was an effort with room for improvement. i can't remember who said it, i think it was a guy.
and sorry if you felt i over-posted, i didn't mean to!!

I know exactly who it was. Hope you have a wonderful night.

==cool - thanks, you too! peace!

Peace"

I had to share this, has anyone had similar stuff happen? That's not normal is it? I'm actually shocked at how someone can read me trolling and bashing people from a "this isn't going so well" comment. I'm not crazy am I? It was such a weird interaction I need some sort of reassurance haha

If this isn't an appropriate topic of discussion please delete, I'm just quite taken aback!!

no it's not normal, but neither are those groups on FB... I'm not at all surprised by this encounter.

Haha. It wasn't even the family (there's a specific "Family" facebook group right?)

I was deliberately being a little bit ass-kissy to see how long I could keep her engaged in conversation, I was sure she'd crack and be like "Nah i'm just kidding". How do people get to a point in their life where they reason like that?! I have no concept of how that could come about!

...I think my favourite bit was "That's trolling and ruining things for others" - such a classic put-down

If you hadn't realized by now, I think this should be a nice wake-up call to stay the fuck away from those things.

I can't believe how long she kept that going, and how serious she was throughout the entire exchange.

I know a couple of very cool / normal people who know a bunch of those people though!

I'd heard the rumours but never seen the madness in its true glory and was kind of giving them the benefit of the doubt.....! Never again will I make that mistake. How do they have jobs and friends?!

'Twas easier for me not to, also didn't want to show her profile picture/ name (thought that would be kind of unfair)

I've really enjoyed the reactions. However this guy is right, I feel my rights as a human, as a Daver, as a LoVe addict, have been violated by that post. It's not fun... it's not funny. It's trolling and bashing.

I've seen two people post pictures of the their ripped fire dancer stickers on their car and accuse someone of trying to steal them...no one gives a fuck about your fire dancer sticker. They wear off after time. Most people think it means you're a dancer anyway.

Normal people exist in those groups, but we stay mostly silent. I stick to the song polls & will occasionally comment on something, but then I'm quickly reminded not to respond. I totally ignore the plethora of Mom it's my birthday, firedancer/personalized license plate/random #41 sightings, Dave has changed my life because..., and I had a dream last night... Posts.

When the crazy gets too much, just come back here. We may be assholes, but at least we aren't Fatal Attraction level psycho.
