Kevin, RE your question about Thea:

I'm not sure what their direction is in the TV universe. Oliver frequently calls her "Speedy" in the show, which was names for two of Green Arrow's teenage sidekicks in the comics - Roy Harper who eventually became "Arsenel" and then "Red Arrow" and also Mia Dearden.

Since Roy Harper skipped Speedy and went straight to Arsenel, perhaps Thea could become Speedy. In the comics, Roy had a relationship and child with Cheshire, who was a member of the League of Shadows. They could be setting her up to be Cheshire, as well.

So I dunno what their plan is, but they're obviously building to something. If she turns good, she could become Speedy. If she continues going down the dark path, she could become Cheshire.

I remembered the nickname "Speedy" from Season 1 and a couple other times. I thought Speedy became Arsenal so I got confused. Her character has been pretty lame, but I think the girl that plays her is a pretty decent actress so I always felt with a different direction she could be a good character.

This show just keeps getting better. I think it helps that I don't have much of a background on the green arrow. Finished episode 9 from the second season last night, so damn good.

Coast City name drop. Flash pilot referenced Ferris Air. Probably just for fun, but man would I love to see them drop Green Lantern on us! One of my favorite DC characters.

I guess I should start spoilering some of these since there's more people in this thread watching the show from the beginning.

Some neat observations from the most recent episode in relation to the comics:

Ted Grant (“Wildcat” - hence the name/logo of his gymnasium) is a Justice League member in the DC universe - he helped trained Batman and other people - but most importantly Canary (hence the flier he handed Laurel) - a further setup for her to become Canary.

Thea’s going by Mia now which pretty much confirms it. In the show she’s Thea Dearden Queen, and Dearden is a pull from Mia Dearden in the comics. So that, coupled with her childhood nickname of “Speedy” and we know where she’s headed.

To me - these are two of the more interesting plots this season - to see Thea and Laurel evolving. They were originally two of the worst characters in the show, but I look forward to seeing them evolve.

also - Corto Maltese was originated in the Frank Miller TDKR series, it was also mentioned in the original Batman movie.

Laurel’s hair is getting more and more blonde each episode. They’ve been gradually adding in highlights, which I think is getting her closer to the comic version of Canary.

The little pool that Ra’s is coming out of, I think it’s the Lazarus Pit from the comics, the waters that gave Ra’s immortality. They can heal, bring back from the dead, etc.

The title, and Merlyn’s “League of Shadow’s” name, “The Magician” - that’s how he was first known in the comics - Merlyn the Magician.

I’m loving all these Ferrir air name drops between this show and Flash. I’m hoping it will lead to a Green Arrow show. They’re obviously making a point to let us know about the existence of Ferris in both universes.

Also, is Sara alive? Nyssa told Lance “She said to tell you she misses you very much”, at the end Lance called her and said “I know you said not to call you unless it was an emergency”, maybe she faked her death? Would be interesting if she got into the Lazarus Pit and was revived, but that wouldn’t play well with the idea that Ra’s killed her or had her killed.

I assumed the Lazarus Pit too. I was so psyched to see that in the background.

I'm also hoping for a Green Lantern show. I'm too impatient to wait until a movie comes out, when 2019 or something? They've been dropping Coast City, Ferris Air left and right.

I think the comment Nyssa made was just said to appease Laurel. When Lance made a comment to her I noticed Laurel made her eyes bigger as if to warn her not to say anything about Sara. Stranger things have happened, but it would take quite a story to make us all believe Sara faked getting shot in the chest and stomach with arrows, falls from a tall building and then lays dead on a slap for a few days in front of all her friends. Also, Ra's said "she was not truly one of us" so unless he has some huge scheme cooked up, I don't see why he'd want to bring her back. But again, stranger things have happened, so who knows.

Wow, the second season finale was crazy. Maybe I give it too much slack because it's a CW show but Arrow is great.

(And if you're not watching it, check out The Flash. It's a bright, funny alternative to Arrow. And has the potential to double the amount of screen time Felicity gets, which is a very good thing.)

Glad to see another one jumping on board! About a year ago I think Chad and I were the only ones here talking about the show.

The end of Season 2 was awesome. I was playing catch up so I watched the last 4 episodes all at once and it played out like an intense movie. Watching them all together made for a way more exciting experience because there was so much going on.

I netflixed through Season's 1 and 2 in 10 days. Finally caught up with Season 3, this show is absolutely amazing. And I never thought I would ever say that about anything on the CW ...

I thought it was great because of Felicity but Prison Break was turrrrible. Like, I thought he acted that way in Prison Break because of the character but, no, that's just how he acts.

Anywya, I'm all caught up now and am glad to see the quality hasn't dropped since the high bar of the season two finale. It's funny that every person Oliver knows is going to be a superhero or villain eventually.

That's crazy, I loved Prison Break. One of my favorite all time shows. And true, Wentworth Miller is kind of one dimensional, but the supporting cast around him contributed to Prison Break being strong as a whole.

Gotham is the lowest priority on my catch up list each week. It's one I'm not in a hurry to catch up on. I don't see it lasting more than 2 seasons. Ratings will dip lower but not low enough to cancel until S2, IMO

The first season was great and it got progressively worse after that. It's definitely one of those shows that should have been a one-season special event type thing. It was laughably bad by the end.

Sometimes I wish I didn't have any knowledge of comic books, so I could go into these shows fresh.

It's definitely different, now when I watch I'm watching for Easter Eggs, and when I hear a little name drop, see a small logo in the background or anything - I get excited.

Just hearing "Ferris Air" always gets me pumped

But I bet people going into it with no background knowledge can enjoy it just a little bit more because it's like reading the books for the first time.

Haven't seen it yet. Took two weeks off from Flash and this week off from Arrow. Every now and then I like to watch in bulk. I wasn't too excited for this episode but will watch it before next week. I really like Felicity but don't really care where she came from.

They based Green Arrow off Robin Hood, so that was a neat little easter egg.

I'm trying to remember- was Roy still in the mirakuru coma when that incident happened? If he wasn't, maybe there were lingering effects.

I'm all about giving Felicity more screen time so I liked this one. I just hope she doesn't go off the deep end because of everything that happened. Oliver hasn't been able to pull anyone back from the ledge yet but I hope this time will be different.
