Kinda hard to get excited by this. The organizers will really have their work cut out for them. I saw Pearl Jam at Randall's Island years ago, and let me tell you, it is a huge pain getting off the island when the show ends. There is basically one road off, so cars will face a long wait. There are city buses, but not enough to get people off quickly. Also, lot's of pushing and shoving to get to them. There will be a ferry. This is probably your best option, but it ususally isn't cheap. Then of course, you could always walk over the Triboro Bridge which also is not easy. Hopefully DMB management knows what its doing.

first, i believe there is a subway that goes to randall's island, which i would imagine has to be the best way to get on and off the island. also if you have a little patience i'm sure it really won't be that bad.

here is a seating chart i found online, not sure how accurate it is, and doesn't show a lawn, but its what i got

You are incorrect. There is no subway station on Randall's Island. The closet subway station is at 125th Street in Manhattan.

i just saw that, poo. i was talking to my aunt about this a while ago (and now remember she said there was no subway, but this was her suggestion), b/c she is from nyc and knows a bit about the goings on there. she said their best bet would be to leave that footbridge open, as mentioned, and just police it to make sure everyone gets over alright. i'd imagine the reason they don't want the bridge open at night is b/c of the possibility of injury, but it would really be the smartest thing to do. they have to open as many avenues as possible to get a crowd like that off the island

Dmbalmanac has the shows being at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. I haven't heard about that yet, but here is the info for the Warped Tour that is there on Aug. 13th:

    Van's Warped Tour Directions
    August 13, 2005, Randall's Island Park

Trust us. Pre and post-show traffic is a hassle.
    Try Mass Transit Instead.

    Get on the bus, Gus.

Quick, cheap and easy. Take the 4, 5, or 6 train or Metro-North to 125th St., then transfer upstairs to the X80 Express Bus (NW corner of 125th St. and Lexington Ave.), which runs non-stop to Randall's Island. A $5 round-trip fare is collected en route to the Island. If you transfer from the subway or bus with your Pay-Per-Ride MetroCard, only $3 is deducted. Paper Bus Transfers and Dollar Bills are not accepted. For more information, log onto www.mta.info.

Coming from Long Island? Take the 7 train or the L.I.R.R. to 61st St. and Woodside, then transfer to the X81 Express Bus (61st St. and Roosevelt Ave.). It runs non-stop to and from Randall's Island. For more information, log onto www.mta.info.

    Take the ferry.

People pay big bucks for this sort of scenery. Not us. You will get the coolest ride in town.
    For info call 1-800-53-FERRY.

    Fine. Drive, then.

Don't say we didn't warn you. Parking fee is $10.

And there are 2 pics on this website:

So I'm not too familiar with NYC, but I'm looking on google maps...Looks like the Triborough dumps you around 124th street...that's Harlem right? Should I be concerned with walking around that area that time of night? Not wanting to be stereotypical or anything, but better to be safe than sorry, no?

This definately sounds like a good time...and the $250 may just be worth it for one day...

When I went to see Pearl Jam, I got off the island by walking over the Bridge. Let me tell you, it's not a fun or easy walk. Once you get to Manhattan, the area is a hell hole until you reach the subway station. However, there will be a lot of people making the same walk, so safety really isn't an issue.

We don't know the opening bands for the other dates this summer yet most have already gotten tickets through Warehouse or plan on getting tickets this Saturday through Ticketmaster.

And as far as transportation, yes it's going to be more of a hassle compared to other venues, but all you have to do is ask yourself if you think the concerts will be worth the hassle, if yes then get tickets, if not then don't get tickets.

Try to find something in the Midtown - East area. That way you'll be near the subway line that gets you closest to Randall's Island.

you'd do the same, but instead of just going to penn station you'd take a subway uptown to harlem, then get off and take a bus, shuttle, ferry, cab, or foot bridge (which is closed at night but they will hopefully open it for this) to the island. but staying in hoboken would be a good idea, b/c once your off the island the trip to hoboken is relatively easy.

I must be crazy! I have never been to NYC and plan to come for this. I missed CP because I was afraid to travel there alone, plus I had spent a lot on shows already. Well, the same still is true this time, but Ihave regretted not going to CP and I am sure I would regret missing this. I'm going to be one lost person needing all of the honest, helpful NYC advice I can get. I'll be flying in, and need to stay someplace, any suggestions from you natives? I am at the mercy of you people to guide this crazy woman safely around.
