I can't even really start to rank their albums, but i'm not a big fan of opiate, aside from Jerkoff and Part of Me. Aenima and Lateralus are renowned for their creativity and ground breaking music/concepts (for Tool, anyway), and rightfully so.

Intension is probably one of my favorite songs on 10k. It just took forever to grow/click for me. Love it as a studio track.

Saw them in January...highlights of the show were Pushit (probably my favorite Tool song) and Ticks and Leaches. Can't wait for their new one, whenever it comes out.

Their live shows are amazing, just wish they would play longer shows...they usually play like 1:45 I think.

Sure. That post was referencing mine when I mentioned the I have friends that tell me that not only is APC is "better", but that they are "basically the same band".

One of those statements is a subjective (but still ridiculous IMO) statement, the other is just flat out not true in any sense.

Yea it was great. My brother went to the DJ set cause he originally wanted to see Beastie Boys and had no desire to see Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I just hung out at Tool and had a great time.

    Love TOOL.

Saw them only once at All Points West in 2009. Lots of fun. A NY drummer friend of Danny Carey came out and played with them and rocked it the fuck out. I really wanted to hear The Grudge but was happy with it all. Lateralus killed.

I was with my brother, who is a jazz guitar major and doesn't listen to much outside jazz and classical stuff, and even he was impressed by the show even though he went in expecting to hate it.

There's just no other band out there like them. Not even close

I don't like heavy stuff either. There isn't a single other "metal" band that I even remotely like, but tool is one of my top 10 bands. Pearl jam is probably the heaviest band i like besides tool

So check em out man for real. They are fucking incredible

Edit: ok I lied I do really like a lot of system of a down, but only because I used to date this chick that got me into them. Don't listen to them much at all anymore, and they aren't in the same stratosphere talent wise as tool

Okay so I have heard Tool songs before, but saw a local band cover a few songs this week and Im hooked. Trying to decide which album to get first, narrowed it down to 10000 Days or Lateralus. Any opinion? Also any live albums worth a purchase? Thanks folks!

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either of those if you're just getting into them. 10,000 days has a couple of really long and slow tracks that might turn off new listeners (in addition to 4-5 insanely awesome and accessible tracks) so I will say go with lateralus. The song "lateralus" is, IMO, their best song. They don't have any official live albums but they did release an ep called "salival" with some live stuff on it and there's quite a few full shows on YouTube. I have a SBD bootleg from the 10,000 days tour called 10,000 nights that's pretty killer, if you remind me tomorrow ill upload it.

But I've been on a "hooker with a penis" kick lately

I'm the man and you're the man and he's the man as well so you should point that fuckin finger up your aaaaaaassssssssssssss

yeah definitely very eccentric, but not in the typical rock star way. he's really the anti rock star...they kind of guy that can probably go to the grocery store and nobody recognizes him. but he's always on stage, he's just in the background to stage left of the drummer and there isnt usually much of a spotlight or anything on him. doesnt like the attention to be on him during shows, which i can respect.

but the fact its approaching 7 years since the last TOOL album and he keeps putting out puscifer albums, which are strange and avant garde, while the rest of the band talks about the music they have written and recorded and that they are ''waiting on maynard to add vocals & lyrics"...it gets frustrating.
