    Harry Potter books rock. The Hobbit book rocked but i couldn't get through Fellowship. The Harry Potter movies were entertaining but I am a snob who doesn't like them because of how untrue to the books they were. LOTR movies I didn't care for much either.

    I made it to half way through the Return of the King book, but I had to stop. It's so slow! I really dislike the Harry Potter films because of bad acting (Daniel) and, like you said, deviance from the books. However, the LOTR films are some of my favourite films ever.

    Book and movie-wise, i couldn't get into LOTR very much (though I loved The Hobbit). I grew up with Harry Potter and have really enjoyed it, so the Harry Potter series gets my vote (though i will admit the films do no justice to the books). That said, I'll give credit to some of the characters from LOTR. Gandalf kicks ass, the Ring Wraiths freak the shit out of me, and Frodo and Sam's friendship is indestructible.

    i almost left the theater during each lord of the rings movie. Each one was at least 45 minutes too long. haven't seen any harry potter movies except the first which was too "kids movie" for me. i'm told the others are not like that, but haven't seen any yet.

    Lord of the Rings in every way, shape, and form. How this is even remotely close is beyond me (and I like Harry Potter). Better story, better writing, better books, better movies, better villains, better good guys. Fuck, Gandalf is a damn divine immortal badass and Sauron can lay waste to entire regions with the flick of his wrist with the ring, while all someone has to do with Voldemort is stop being a bitch and cap a 9mm in his gut. And the Frodo/Sam relationship in the movie is totally different than the tag team from the books. Emma Watson is the only plus tool HP has, and that's relegated to a series of mediocre movies.

    I would be betraying my teen years if I voted for anything other than Lord of the Rings. I was absolutely obsessed with the series in high school.

    HP. After I read the full series I was in the library or some bookstore or something and somebody suggested LOTR since I liked HP so much. I gave it a try and I couldn't get into it. Dunno why, but it didn't click for me. Obviously I don't have the most educated vote as I never read LOTR in full, but HP held my attention so much more. Dumbledore is one of my favorite characters in all of literature, Emma Watson's fucking hot, Bellatrix Lestrange cracks me up every single time... The whole series is amazing. Voted for HP the whole way down.
