I've been getting into jazz a lot more Recently but I only really have two recordings. I have Miles Davis --" Circle in the Round " --which is my favorite of the two and John Coltrane " A Love Supreme. " Anyone know any other recordings that are like these two or any artists that are similar? I'm really digging this stuff.

I love all the stuff from Miles Davis Quintet (featuring Coltrane). Also Trane with Monk is a good listen. I have the Coltrane Impulse boxset which is amazing up until about disc 6 when I can't really follow it. As a guitarist, I have a special spot for Wes Montgomery. And I'm not sure if he was mentioned before, but McCoy Tyner is probably my favorite jazz artist.

Thought I'd share this, a previously unreleased Coltrane Quartet performance of " My Favorite Things " from Copehagen 11/18/61.

Have you heard Kind of Blue by Miles? This is an absolute must. Two other classic records for beginning jazz fans are "Take Five" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet and "Mingus Ah Um" by Charles Mingus. Well, there are many great options here .

My personal favorite jazz artists, in no particular order, are Duke, Satchmo, Trane, Miles, Parker, Diz, Herbie, Max Roach, Mingus, and many, many more. Today I listened to Cannonball Adderley's "Something' Else", a fantastic record that frequently finds itself underrated.

Cool new vid about the making of the Yellowjackets new album " Timeline " available March 15, 2011. Glad Will Kennedy is back. I saw them live for the 4th time last year. I like the clip of the Elvin Jones ( John Coltrane Quartet's drummer ) inspired tune " Like Elvin. "
