Man that was good. Show flew by but man was it great. Even the songs I'm not crazy about were good. (Conversation piece) Pyro was def a highlight though. Walls, Eyes on you, Over, Reverend, four kicks....good times.

Yeah man, great show. I loved what they did with Walls, that was awesome. No encore threw me off a bit.

Chicago show got postponed till March 8th cuz Nathan came down with pneumonia. Normally wouldn't be a huge deal, but my friend flew 1800 miles from Washington state to come in for the show, and they didn't announce it till about 24 hours before so that SUCKED!! We're hoping to find a decent priced flight and she can get time off work to make the re-scheduled date.

That had to be it. They said the doctor ordered him to take 3 days off to rest, so Detroit on Sunday and Chicago and Monday both got postponed. Can't imagine trying to play a 2 hour show on drums with pneumonia...

Damn, Nathan strikes again hahaha. Pneumonia now and previously the bus accident a couple years ago. My mother-in-law had that recently, looked miserable.

Obviously understand why they postponed, but they announced it around 4:00 Sunday afternoon. Knew a lot of people who were already downtown ready to go. I was about 10 mins away from making the trip. Didn't get a call from Ticketmaster until 6pm.

A bit more of a heads up would have been nice. This is now twice in a row that KOL had to cancel/postpone a concert my brother had tickets too. Can't wait until March 9th though.

Wife loves them. We've had tickets to 3 shows (Red Rocks 2011 x2, First Bank 2017), they've cancelled or postponed all 3, she's never been able to see them. Unreal.

These guys are playing at a festival I'm going to in May and there's no one else I care to see during their timeslot. I've never listened to them (outside of their hits). Should I go see them or head home early and get some sleep for the next day of the festie?

I'd have to imagine most in this thread are going to tell you to go see them.

But honestly though....sounds like you have a couple months before you have to make that call so....listen to some of their stuff and decide if you like them??

Aha Shake Heartbreak is pretty much the consensus best album of theirs by most (and I certainly agree with that.) I'd do that one first.

Big fan of Kings of Leon. Definitely in my Top 10, maybe even Top 5, favorite bands. Definitely worth sticking around and seeing them, but like Alex said, take the next couple months and listen to some of their catalog. Only negative about them live is that they don't expand on the songs. Not everyone has to be DMB, but it would be nice to hear a different guitar solo than what's on the album.

Their sound starts to change on their third album "Because of the Times". In my opinion it is for the better. It's not popular opinion, but I think their best albums are "Because of the Times" (might be my favorite), "Only by the Night", "Come Around Sundown" and "Mechanical Bull". "Walls" still isn't really doing much for me.

I became a fan later though. The earlier stuff doesn't do much for me. I know older fans prefer the edgier less polished sound, but not me. I think the early stuff is alright, but it's a bit amateur to me. "Because of the Times" is when they started really honing in on their sound and crafting better tunes. Call it selling out if you want, but I think they just became better songwriters as they got older.

Good summary! I am definitely in the camp that prefers the earlier work, however I also enjoy the post-Only By The Night, 'shorter hair, bigger choruses' KoL as well.

To me Because of the Times is definitely their most 'experimental' album - I honestly don't hear a ton of similarity between it and their commercial explosion with OBTN. Aha Shake is my favorite KoL album, but my #2 is Mechanical Bull, that's far and away my favorite of the 'latter day' Kol records.

I don't know that I'd say Because of the Times is similar to Only By the Night, but I can definitely hear that they were headed in that direction. My best description of it is that it's the bridge between the amateur raw sound of their two first albums and the more commercial friendly sound of Only By the Night, and everything after. Nice to see you hold Mechanical Bull up in such high esteem. I put that up there as probably my #2 as well. Possibly #1. Such a great album.

*Side note: Why don't they ever play Ragoo?!?!?!*

*Side note: Why don't they ever play Ragoo?!?!?!*
I definitely can hear a little bit of that move in a few of the BOTT tracks (Fans, True Love Way, Arizona come to mind) but there's also stuff like Knocked Up, Charmer, McFearless, and Trunk that is totally in the opposite direction.

Totally agreed on Mechanical Bull. I love every single song on that record. I really wish they were doing more of it live right now than just Supersoaker and the acoustic Comeback Story.

Agreed on Ragoo as well! Also, Black Thumbnail should never be out of their setlist, ever.
