New studio news!

It's so cliche, but I have a friend who I've known since high school who works for a electronics sales/repair company (AVR??) in Seattle. We've always kept in touch but much more now since we both have a love for the band's music. Anyways, I spoke with her earlier today and she informed me that there have been some equipment problems in the studio and as a part of their service team, she was able to go and repair/install some new steinhauser sp?? mics and mixing consoles. Unfortunately, the band wasn't there at the time but an engineer named Steve and Cavallo were. After they finished their work, She was able to talk to this guy Steve as he was checking out everything they had been working on. In short, the album is coming along "spectacular" as Steve put it and the band is excited about the new material they've laid down. Leroi has had more input/influence on this album more so than in the past, Dave is experimenting more with the small guitar and utilizing the piano on some tracks, Stefan has brought in the upright bass (FINALLY!!) Dave and Tim pair off alone on some recording days, but most other days the whole band is there. That's pretty much it. She said she'd let me know if anything else comes up, but I'm thinking that they won't be needed unless something else screws up. Anyways, this is really gearing me up for the tour to see if we can get a tease or a new song or two!!

She didn't say whether it was or wasn't. I just assumed it was someone else working with the band. I think that if it were Steve Lillywhite she'd pass that little tid-bit along to me.

    Interesting.

I'm not liking that Dave on piano bit though. OOMH sucked ass, I don't want another one. Dave needs to stick with guitar and worry about writing good riffs and lyrics.

And the part about the guy saying things were "spectacular", of course he's going to say that. They always do. Its a canned response, just like when someone asks you how you are doing.

"People People" was played mostly on the Piano...

It is theoretically possible for DMB to make a good song with a piano as the focal point.

I dunno, when somebody asks me how I am doing, I'm not afraid to say, "Shitty.", if its the truth.
But yeah, with them it probably is the other way, I know what you mean.

Butch is in the studio, this has been confirmed by a number of people.

People People was a Peter Griesar tune. But I definitely still see what you're saying.

if its friends or family, someone who actually cares about your wellbeing, then ya you'll say the truth. but if its like a business meeting and you are meeting people, you're not going to go into any unnecessary details, so you just give a vague answer. overall, you are likely doing good. you don't have cancer, you weren't evicted from your appartment, your fridge has a cold 6 pack, things could be a lot worse.

as for People People, I've only listened to it a handful of times because i just have no reason to listen to it. its old and never coming back, i've never seen it played, i don't care about it.

and OOMH does in fact suck. there is no way anybody could say that that song is ANYWHERE near the quality of the big 3 + BS

I agree, since it was more of a business thing who's going to say, "yeah, this session is sucking ass and not headed anywhere worth following etc."
OOMH in my opinion isn't appealing at all to me, but I'm hoping *fingers crossed* that maybe with the upright bass, more leroi/ more leroi influence, dave writing on the piano....we're getting a couple of jazzed-out songs. That's all just wishful thinking

The engineer's name is Steve Miller and my friend's employer is AVL not AVR. All these damn anacronymns get confusing sometimes.

Yeah, I was thinking Steve Harris, too.

But anyway, thanks for the news! Good to hear that at least they've laid down some stuff to work with. Maybe they can finish the album after the summer tour, and work towards an early 09 release!

Im guessing everybody missed the OP saying it was Steve Miller.

and the only reason Ill believe this is because its not really any distinct news, and hes been here since 02 and doesnt post much.

And in the video it did seem like Roi was in charge.

I'm not sure about this, but I don't think the OP meant Steve Miller from the Steve Miller Band, or maybe he/she did. Care to clarify Peppermill?
