    Re: ryan adams.

ryan owns! he played two 'super secret' acoustic shows in london last week in venues that hold about 200-250 people. i wish the bastard didn't make them so secret though, i found out 5 minutes after tix went on sale and they were already going for 100 pounds each on ebay!!

heartbreaker, love is hell & cold roses kick some serious arse...he is a hell of a good song-writer!

    he also did 'what sin':

both performances are incredible...he jams the hell out of goodnight rose. his love of the grateful dead are extremely evident in both performances, which IMO is nothing but a good thing

easy tiger is going to have quite a heavy GD influence i reckon. again, ain't nothing wrong with that

He has one of the most unique voices and range. It's so raw too.

Do you remember what songs you listened to?

if by butchered, you mean made me actually be able to tolerate it by completely changing the mood of the song for the better and eliminating the whiney gallagher vocals, then yes, he sure did.
but, like i said, to each their own.

Adam's voice was way more whiny in that song than Gallagher's. I know Noel thought Ryan's version was ok, but I can't stand it. It always irriates me when someone takes a really good song and changes it. It kills the song for me.

i love when ryan & the cardinals covers this song, especially when phil lesh is present

in light of ryan's current grateful dead 'sound', here is the video of ryan and phil rocking out wharf rat:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpBEtDkCwuQ

note the bottle of wine he is chugging on stage before they kick the song off ha! he has sobered up now, but still, drinking wine from a bottle on stage is legendary.

Give the 'Cold Roses' cd a listen too.

FYI - His version of Wonderwall is brilliant. Very dark.

    try these

    Ballad of Carol Lynn

    and

    Jacksonville Skyline

some whiskeytown for you (his alt-country band from a couple of years ago). if that doesn't appeal to you then you are a lost cause and Mr. Adams just isn't for you.
