ODH-->Why I Am

What I'd really like to hear is a solid Old Dirt Hill segue into Why I Am. We heard a tease of it last year at Mile High and I think it would be a wicked back-to-back duo. I have to admit that when I first heard ODH on Stand Up, I thought it was junk but now it has grown on me and become my favorite song from that album. Paired in front of WIA I think this would pack a great 1,2 punch live. What does everyone else think?

    That would be pretty cool. The 2008 versions of ODH were pretty good.

    They've already done it this year at C'Ville N2. Except it was only a partial/tease of ODH >> WIA.

    That'll be just about right

    I'll take about a ton of other songs before I'll take ODH haha.

    The 2008 versions of ODH were great. I liked the tease earlier this year at JPJ too but would love to hear the whole ODH. It's such a great "tiny little song" that has great build ups throughout and then busts into a frickin' awesome live rock tune in WIA

    if sparingly they did what they did at cville n2, i would like it.

    however, if it became standard i'd get tired of it very very very fast.

    if they played all of ODH into why i am though, it would suck.

    for the record i do really want to hear dave play an acoustic on why i am

    Re: ODH-->Why I Am

    So I made a playlist of my set openers of the shows I've been to. I have the blessing of Old Dirt Hill being one. That said, I am a fan of the song. To me, it's just a fun song and I enjoy it. Is it anything great to hear in concert?

    So, I'm listening to it just now. And the song starts off slow, about half way in, it kicks up a couple of notches, and then at the very end it kicks into high gear. Then comes the five second Why I Am outro and it's done. Damn. It's like you're just about to get off and everything comes to a dead stop.

    I think Old Dirt Hill > Why I Am could be really damn good live. If they do the stuff the were doing in the late part of the tour in 2008, I'm not saying it would be super-awesome, just really damn good. I'd take stuff like LIOG over this any day, of course. But wouldn't it be nice to get a little break of Spaceman > Corn Bread every once in a while?

    Is Dave supposed to play ODH on electric? That would make the song even more godawful (full band) than it already is. I say let it stay dead. If it meant that Dave played WIA on acoustic, though, it might be a fair trade.

    You'd have to have Dave playing an acoustic for ODH...might be kinda cool to hear him play an acoustic on WIA. I know it's hard driven with electric guitar but Tim can whail away at that. Or maybe Dave could even do a quick switch over during the outro/intro part.

    And I'm in no way saying that this should be played every night on tour, I just think the 2 songs gel together so well, who knows, those ODH haters may one day be converted if they hear this a few times.

    Ye I hear this. If you listen to Live Trax 14, the chords they are playing at the very end of the ODH outro are identical to the intro chords of Why I Am... It is the same song.

    You can't be serious. WIA (band version) totally destroys ODH band version. I almost think that's not even objective.

    Did anybody ever notice that the opening riff to WIA (they also use it throughout the song too) sounds an awful lot like the little riff in Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles. Listen to that song and you'll know what I'm talking about. Its like the same riff.

    You are right very similar...I made the same connection only with the Cream song Badge, which was co-written by George Harrison. After badge was written George wrote Here Comes the Sun which uses a similar guitar part inspired by those sessions with Clapton. I'd love to hear a Badge tease > WIA.....check out a live version to see what I mean.
