Re: Ants Podcast 83: We're Taking the Year Off* Episode Discussion

When was this recorded? It's interesting that towards the end one of the questions was what you've heard about west coast dates...you guys said nothing, but several people have posted on these boards that there will in fact be west coast dates. Is that just something you guys didn't see/read on the boards or did you purposefully not bring them up so as to tame expectations?

I'm so happy that we finally got an episode. The 158 day wait was worth it! I laughed so hard I had to pause as I was putting my daughters to sleep when I started listening. Thanks, I'm really looking forward to the next episode!

Since I'm European I've never seen a D&T, really looking forward to it! I'm expecting Copenhagen to be my big concert experience of this year, meeting other fans and really having a great time!

I will tell you - they simply didn't do their homework and answered that question out their ass. I've been listening for several years and they have no insight into the west coast; not their fault since they don't live out here (except for Matt, but he has long lost interest in the band), but don't go to them thinking they know anything about what is coming when.

They are fans just like you and are simply guessing.

What I was trying to say was that there is a rumors thread here on their own forum (ants) where people have stated that the West coast would be happening. Was more just curious why they made no mention of that. Maybe they just didn't see it or didn't want to speculate.

About the only way I'd sit down and listen to these podcasts is if the band gave Jake, Matt et. al permission to announce to the world what the next LT/DMBLive will be.

Let me know when we find out if Jake still enjoys listening to the band.

Then we will ask the band ten times if they still enjoy listening to Jake's podcast.

Hey Jake, out of curiosity, how much does it cost to run a site like Antsmarching.org, per month?

I will stand strong on this. I was at N3 of the Gorge and have listened to the tapes multiple times. Dave did NOT tease Dodo. I hear IBYU more than anything.

Nice. There's a slight difference between reasoned discussion about how the band isn't shit (unless you think it is, in which case why are you still here?!), and http://antsmarching.org/forum/showthread.php?t=344154

I don't understand this. People who run fan sites such as this should be fans of the band. If the love is gone, which is apparent, stop the site or hand it over to someone who is into it. The shows, the music, any new music or not, shouldn't be a constant negative. Trashing the band because they didn't play Dodo at one particular show? Really guys? I've always thought any Dave solo done at a full band show is a complete bonus, as it technically isn't "their" music. I remember reading an interview with Dave about Spotlight, where he admitted he'd probably never play it again as he doesn't feel that way anymore as he did in that song. Maybe that is the case with Dodo? I've been to plenty of shows, and probably have enough DMB related music stashed away to last a lifetime, and everything comes back to the music. I enjoy the music, flat out. Having followed the band, admittedly not since the first gigs in Charlottesville, as long as I have, I go to shows to hear anything they play and to have a great time, which I know I will have. To go to a show of any band simply to hear one song, especially one of their most rare songs, is only setting yourself up for failure and disappointment, which comes through clear as day in this podcast. Not trying to rip on the guys too badly here because this is a fantastic site and podcast, but I think this was " a touch" harsh. For my two cents, the " but it's a year off" nonsense got old quickly, I'd rather not have a year off, thank you. I don't want to end on a negative note, so again, great site, podcast, I just think this latest was too harsh. Thank you fellas.

It's their site, they can do what they want with it. We should just be grateful they keep it up and running. But I have to admit, I do somewhat agree. I did post last year that I felt the news section on the front page was updated far less frequently and timely than it used to be. Some people disagreed with me, but I think the bolded may play into it a little.

I don't remember so I did a quick search and couldn't find it but will look again later. I think it looked like an offhand comment he made.
