This is a good question. Another question to the people on here who attended a Pearl Jam show this year and were "blown away" is how many Pearl Jam shows have you been to in the last ten years? How does that number compare to the number of DMB shows you've attended in that same time period.

B&R is definitely better than PV, I didn't like him veering down the almost country road and messing around with the dating cancer that is Taylor Swift, nevermind how creepy that even was.

I think he could spend the rest of his career trying to make something half as good as Continuum, Born & Raised is ok at best to me, all of his post Continuum feels kind of hollow in comparison.

I went to see him on the tour for B&R right after his voice had come back, I think it was the first or second show he played after his year of rest or whatever it was after the nodules. JM was (not surprisingly and deservedly so) quite tentative, seemed a little gun-shy. Phillip Phillips from American Idol was supposed to open for him and for some reason didn't, so I guess in a scramble they found this new young band to play, St. Paul & the Broken Bones.

I currently am in love with StP&BB but I think they must have been so rushed they didn't even get a sound check, they didn't even have an album out yet, just like a gofundme EP... their performance got rave reviews, but damn it was awful. Sound was terrible, it was just so loud you couldn't really even hear any of it.

B&R was JM finding himself again after the Tay Swift crap. I dont pick up on any country stuff, I hate country and love the album. Its just a great folk-alternative album. Im very much looking forward to this new one, I hope some GD influences trickle in there. But im sure when he tours with the trio they will be killing it again, especially after his touring stint the last year with Dead & Co. Should be some good stuff on the horizon

I dont have any feelings on Radiohead either way, they are meh to me. But Mayer is a virtuoso blues guitar player, probably the best one alive currently. People that brush him off as a pop star nothing just havent listened to his catalog.

Maybe I should have complemented Mayer in my post. I think he's a great guitarist. I just find it funny that members here can write off a band saying "they're shit" when there is plenty of evidence that they are considered great musicians.

I'm hoping for good stuff on that horizon, the title track to B&R had some country feel to it, I think my feelings from Paradise Valley bled over to B&R now that I look back at it. The singles off of B&R were certainly good and I really liked Walt Grace's Submarine Test for some reason.

That song took longer than the rest to resonate with me but I LOVE it.

Favorite songs off of B&R are:

    Queen of California
    Age of Worry
    Something like Olivia
    Born & Raised
    Walt Grace
    Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey

entire album is great though. Speak for Me & If I ever get around to living are great tracks as well.

Paper Doll has grown on me slightly, when I first heard it I hated it. Like I said before, that whole album seems like an afterthought to B&R

I guess it helps me that John was inspired by living in Paradise Valley when he wrote the album, which is near where I used to live for over a decade.

Paradise Valley is his worst album by far, IMO. Seems like it was rushed out because Born and Raised didn't sell very well.
I even enjoy Battle Studies a lot more than that one.

I just can't get into all the love everyone heaps on Mayer's guitar playing. Sure he's a great player, but he always sounds like someone else to me. He's like a hodgepodge of all the past greats. He doesn't have a "that's definitely Mayer" thing going on, which I think is important.

Same. Battle Studies isnt great but there are some very good songs on there. Assassin is great.

Mayer definitely has his own sound. Very evident with his playing with Dead & Co.

Are you trying to get me to intentionally listen listen to a song by that evil wench? I think it makes your argument invalid, I'll have to check with the judges.

A few people seemed to agree with me that he has a unique sound, they didn't use T.Swift as an example

For sure. Watch his snapchat, he's generally pretty funny on there and seems down to earth. Lots of cool shots from his place in Montana.

Good to hear, will do so, I've always liked JM the musician a lot but his personality used to be overbearing. I understand having an ego, Dave has a massive one as I'm sure most people who get to that level do, but JM used to just not know how to shut it off.

Re: What Happened to this Band?

Look at the thread for last night's show. Not even a single post after it started. Nobody cares anymore. And they played the same canned show that they were playing before the break. It's over.
