one thing that does make me a bit skiddish about this Dark Tower adaptation, especially considering how long it's going to be (and thus lots of build up) I feel like I've seen comments from more than a few big King readers the last couple years that the final showdown between Roland and this Crimson King character is pretty disappointing. well, that there's kind of two steps in the 'big showdown', and at least one of them was very disappointing.

though I'm equally intrigued by the notion (well, one of many, surely) that according to some of the accompanying illustrations, anyway, this tower is so fucking enormous that you can still at least see like the silhouette of the thing against the sky seemingly thousands of miles away. There's the one drawing I've seen where the Gunslinger is on a beach, and you can see the thing from across the ocean.

I'm just saying its not the most exciting or gripping book he has ever written. But I think that once you are 1/2 way though Drawing of the Three you are hooked.

I wonder how they are going to solve the 'Jake' problem - isn't any child actor going to age too fast considering how long it will take to get the series made?

WTF? - King clarified earlier this month that film won’t adapt his 1982 novel “The Gunslinger,” the first novel in his “Dark Tower” series, but rather will start “in media res, in the middle of the story instead of at the beginning.”

But I thought he recently said that he had been adament the very first thing would be the first line from the first book, the line we all know so well that puts a smile on our faces.

I finished Finders Keepers last night, and it gets a "meh" from me. I loved Mr Mercedes and the characters and am looking forward to the 3rd Bill Hodges book, but the story in this one just felt like a placeholder to get the characters to that 3rd book. You could skip the main story of this book and only read about 25 pages and probably be set for the next book.

Long ago in a galaxy... preceeds every Star Wars film.

Even though the film may start somewhere else in the time line I don't see why it couldn't open with that line. Readers will know and love the line, and it will build intrigue with people new to the story.

Yea, but every Star Wars film takes place long ago in a galaxy far far away.

Opening with the first line of the Gunslinger, and starting somewhere else in the story doesn't make any sense.

Listened to the first novella, 1922, of Full Dark, No Stars yesterday on my drive from WNY to western Michigan. Wow, great story and somewhat disturbing.

Going to start on the next one on my next longer drive. Craig Wasson narrated 1922 and I find his reading of King's work to be second to none.

Wasson also did the audiobook for 11/22/63 and the short 'Blockade Billy' (another good one he did was Grisham's Innocent Man - highly recommend this). If anyone is into audiobooks, I'd highly recommend Wasson as a narrator

Really? Loved the 1st book. The 2nd one is meh, reading the 3rd one soon. I've definitely read much worse books by King (Revival comes to mind).
