Re: Better Call Saul (May Contain Breaking Bad Spoilers)

What is amazing about this show (and Breaking Bad) is that they do such an amazing job of getting us to root for the bad guy. I mean by normal conventions, Chuck is in the right. He's an asshole and mean to his brother, but from an ethical standpoint he's doing the right thing. Every character is so complex. It creates so many conflicting emotions, just like Breaking Bad, it's great.

Do we know how many seasons of Better Call Saul there will be?

Sounds like Saul Goodman is possibly showing up next episode, or at least the preview made reference to it. I wonder how long he will be in that "character" before the series ends.

I found it very interesting/brilliant that in the opening flashback scene of this week's episode with Rebecca showing up to Chuck's house, that they neatly tied in a reference that the energy company accidentally switched up house numbers on the person not paying their bills, which resulted in Chuck "losing his power".

I'd love if 5a ended with Walter coming into Saul's office and 5b was a story of Saul post BB.

I really thought when this show was announced it was going to be pretty lighthearted in nature, sort of like the role Saul played in BB, him already being Saul and doing slimy things in a "case of a week" format, with maybe a larger narrative about him getting in with some extremely unsavory clients. It's amazing how rich of a character they have made Jimmy - and it really works to bring some level of tragedy to Saul's story, knowing that when we meet him in BB Kim isn't in his life (presumably) and that he ends up as Cinnabon Gene. This show is amazing.

Re: Better Call Saul (May Contain Breaking Bad Spoilers)

I'd say for all of season 1, I thought of the show like this (in relation to Breaking Bad): it's like dating a new girl you really like and has all the boxes checked. But you STILL think about your last girlfriend, and just want her back. I was watching BCS enjoying it and going with it, but just feeling teased because I wanted Breaking Bad back to badly.

By the end of season 2, they hooked me with wanting to see THIS story end. I do feel the show has tons of slow moments/scenes that drag on way too long. It bothers me personally because we (the audience) knows where it ends up. So, I didn't feel the suspense on those kind of scenes. However, the last two episodes (Gus and last night) were dynamite. When the show runs like this, it's fantastic.

This show is so fucking good. Blown away by the last two episodes.

Up until this episode, if you told me there'd be none of Mike's storyline, I'd be a little disappointed. After this. Damn. Such a pivotal episode. Bring on Saul!!

For my money this is the best show on TV behind GOT. The cinematography is absolutely unrivaled and the acting is as good as it gets. It's so clever the way they give you all these references and characters from BB yet you could totally watch the show on its own with no knowledge of BB and not be confused at all.

Amazing how a show with drugs, cartels, hitmen, gangsters, murderers and thieves has its best episode center around a disbarment trial and its antagonist is a law abiding lawyer who is 100% correct in his allegations. Aside from his mental illness causing him to fabricate a physical ailment and being a shitty brother chuck has never done anything shady or illegal and the writers have made the audience absolutely hate him while the protagonist commits felonies and we love him.

The arc of this show will be so tragic. I truly hope we get a half season at least of Saul's post breaking bad life.

I doubt it'll go this way, but Jimmy & Kim could still end up with a happy ending.

They would only be separated by 1-3 years between when Saul enters Breaking Bad & his Cinnabon-based life. Maybe she joins him later on?

This may sound crazy but after this week's episode, I think I may be liking this show more than BrBa.

I think as far as story structure and just the way it's expertly crafted that BB might be "better" but this show is much more emotionally compelling. I was thrilled watching BB but I'm truly moved watching this show. Jimmy is just as deep a character as Walt is and Kim is a way better character than Skylar.

    Anybody else feel this way?

I think the characters in BCS are much more likable. Skylar and Marie were just annoying. Even though Walt and Jesse were great characters, it was hard to root for them. I don't think I would say BCS is the better show, but it is honestly pretty close for me.

I do think it's crazy how this show has pulled people in who haven't watched Breaking Bad. My father watches and has no idea how cool it is to see some of these characters backstories/cameos from BB. Pretty cool how it appeals to both types of viewers.
