Re: Philadelphia Phillies

That loss on Sunday hurt. How can you throw a pitch like that to Harper?

Not like he was going to be a problem for a rebuilding team looking to fill out a rotation.

I freely admit I only wind up catching Phillies news fairly sporadically at this point. I happened to be looking over the latest ESPN power rankings, I know at their "best" during this whole post-world series doldrums they were up to maybe like as high as 20th, but right now they're next to last. And what really blew my mind, they haven't won 2 consecutive games ALL MONTH. and obviously May's pretty much over at this time. Never winning more than a game at a time. damn.

men at this point we're past Amaro

    now it's on:
#1: scouts, coaches, everyone involved with player development
#2: guys like Biddle, Franco, and possible Crawford being busts

#2 is the obvious one. Phillies farm system was looking stacked in the last 18 months. So far these guys aren't panning out though

#1 on the other hand is systemic and scary. Think about it- this team has not developed one (1), single impact player through the minor leagues since..wait for it..Cole Hamels, and he debuted in 2006

it's been 11 phucking years since a single impact player came out of the Phillies minor leagues. Some of it is trading away the future, but you're telling me not one player was able to develop? Not one? Something's wrong there

Phillies drafted a local kid in the 14th round - Zach Warren, a LHP from Vineland, NJ. Spent the last three years at Tennessee.

damn, we signed Jake Arrietta at 3 years/$75M.

I definitely remember reading recently this was in the mix as a possibility, but I never really thought it'd actually happen.

its an interesting deal. I guess it means the phillies truly believe they are ready to contend. You dont often see 66-win teams signing a guy for $25mm a year, unless they think he'll put them over the hump

must not have been a huge market either for him to take just a 3 year deal. at his age just a few years ago he would have commanded 6 years

Well wasn't this kind of the prevailing story thru baseball this offseason? you have maybe like an unprecedented level of "talent" that who went as far as into the beginning of Spring Training still unsigned because you had some guys who really misjudged what their perceived value was.
hell it was I think not even 2 weeks ago ESPN's site had their "All Still-Unsigned-Free-Agent Team", and it wasn't too shabby of a roster at all.
