apparently they're apparently going ahead with the first television portion of it, I don't know exactly where but apparently Glen Mazzara will be the showrunner.

It's almost impossible to explain why it's not dumb without huge spoilers.

Why they're doing this is beyond me... and I'm really not holding out any hope for a TV series because we've all been hearing that lip service for years.

One of these days I'll stick to it and finish the novels.

    sigh

Based on the reviews this is getting, I'm guessing it's not going to make any money, and because of that, this is probably all we'll ever get. Such a waste.

I hope I at least enjoy it. I think I will.

I go back and forth on this.

I don't disagree with your point, but a big part of me thinks the fact that it's impossible to explain makes it dumb

yea, I kinda figured something like that might be the case.

Although, I think now I might have at least a bit of a clue what you're poking at, because I sort of accidentally saw what I think was kind of a spoiler in a review earlier today. The odd thing is though, I'm honestly not sure if it's a spoiler in very vague, general terms, or it's a GIANT point

    It was a reference to...

I've been meaning to finally take a real stab at the books for quite awhile now. I know I'll definitely be doing the audiobook, I did try once a couple years ago but I kept falling asleep like less than an hour in because it was late at night each time

You're very close and it's THE spoiler.

I'd tell you it's the world and characters that make this story good but that's a big part of it.

I'm reading It for the first time right now. It's a beast (on page 645 right now...over 500 pages to go ). Terrific thus far for me as well.

I really want to see the trailer for the new film, but I've got to finish this damn book first to avoid spoiling anything.

Movie reviews apparently super positive for the IT movie. About 300 pages left to read (been super busy). Cannot fucking wait for this to come out next Friday.

So im about 60% done with the second dark tower book and really enjoying the books so far.

My question is, some sites suggest reading Stand/ Salems Lot/ Insomnia etc while reading the Dark Tower series as well.

Ive never powered through the Stand or the other books connected with the series/ universe- is it worth it?

Or will reading the Dark Tower series alone, and then those books after be alright?

The Dark Tower series is a daunting task as is, thought about adding Stand to it might be a little much. But if it greatly enhances it would prob consider.

    Also IT looks amazing.

The Stand and Insomnia are two of his greatest works, so you should definitely read them, but you don't need to read them in the middle of the DT read. The Stand probably would have been better to read before, but not absolutely necessary. Insomnia can be read after.

The only book I'd really recommend reading in the middle of the DT read is Black House. Even that though isn't absolutely necessary. It has like a behind the scenes story about what's going on with the breaking of the beams. It's the most DT book that's not a DT book.

Finished reading IT. Bummed I won't be seeing it this weekend. My fiance has to go back to Michigan because her grandmother passed the other day. We'll either attempt to see it late Friday night before she leaves Saturday, or just go next week.

    Should have said:

"...we give points for creativity, however we want the local prankster to know that we were completely terrified as we removed these balloons from the grates and we respectfully request they do not do that again. If we catch you, you'll float too"

    I figured.

I need to read that one. I never read it growing up because the fantasy aspect, wizards and dragons and shit, turned me off. This was obviously before I read the DT. I just never got back to it.

I read Eyes of the Dragon in 1991 and then again some 25 years later, it really is an excellent tale of fantasy and highly recommended. It was nowhere near the first King book I read, but certainly one of the most unique.

did you guys know there was an adaptation for GERALD'S GAME made? It's premiering on netflix, the trailer came out today.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twbGU2CqqQU

It's actually one of the few SK books I have the actual book of, I've had it for years and no memory of how I got it, never even cracked it open. I do recall hearing a long time ago though it was supposedly one of the King stories it was virtually impossible to make a film of, cause so much just a character on their own. But it seems like this writer and director maybe figured out a way. It's Carla Cugino and Bruce Greenwood.

btw, so King wrote different parts of Dark Tower at different times, yes? like he'd maybe write one of the earlier books, it'd have its full release to the public, but then he went back and wrote some whole other novel (or short story collection) that had its own journey from first being written to public release before he then went forth and properly wrote whatever the next "stage" was of the whole Dark Tower saga, right?

and yes I toss this is an a comparable example, but perhaps its not really too comparable cause of how long ago it was or whatever, but just that to best of my knowledge, Tolkien wasn't writing anything else that wasn't still in some way related to LOTR during the whole time he wrote the whole saga, I believe... ? That he basically wrote that start and finish, and it was ALL he concentrated on during that time, til it was properly done.

and yes I toss this is an a comparable example, but perhaps its not really too comparable cause of how long ago it was or whatever, but just that to best of my knowledge, Tolkien wasn't writing anything else that wasn't still in some way related to LOTR during the whole time he wrote the whole saga, I believe... ? That he basically wrote that start and finish, and it was ALL he concentrated on during that time, til it was properly done.

Oh yea. 1-5 came out over the span of like 20 years, with dozens of books coming in between.

The bold is key though. Most of his books are in some way related to The Dark Tower. Ka is a wheel.

I read Gerald's Game as like a 13 year old - my parents obviously had no idea what they were buying me.
