Ray Lamontagne

Cant believe there isnt a thread on Ray yet. As such, wanted to designate a space for all things Ray Lamontagne. Two albums so far (Trouble, Until the Sun Turns Black) with another (Gossip in the Grain) due out October 14. He is an amazing live act and if you have not heard him, you should. its that simple.

For a few songs outside of the albums...

http://raylamontagne.yuku.com/topic/...Downloads.html

I've now seen him 3 times and he is among an elite group that i will pay good money to see him in the appropriate venue. (heater - how'd you like the show?) just amazing.

I love Ray. He's very chill and actually has something to say. That's rare these days.

I enjoy listening to his music at home, but I've seen him twice, as an opener and at a festival, and his live show is so fucking boring.

Planned on seeing him here in Austin, but tickets sold out quicker than I anticipated. Might go day of, and try to find someone selling, but scalpers are intense around these parts, and the tend to suck up any extras.

I love Ray! But I did laugh my ass off when a tech friend of mine was asked of what he thought of Ray.

Tech friend: Fuck that whiny emo folk singer bitch!

    I couldn't help but laugh.

fuckin brilliant, soulful, creative...but a head case. saw him open for guster and the crowd wouldnt shut up during trouble so he threw his guitar in the air and walked off the stage. i still love the guy though, i always felt he sounded like janis joplain in some way

seeing ray as an opener is not the way to experience him. i had tickets to that "double bill" (w/ Guster and he quit the tour before i got to see him) but Ray needs to be seen in a theatre. he does have some emotional issues it seems...and demands attentiveness during his shows.

his new album sounds effing great. i've only heard a few studio cuts - "you are the best thing" and "Meg White" - but he played almost the entire album Wednesday night in Chicago. My best attempt at the set:

    You are the best thing
    Empty
    Hold You in My Arms
    Let it be me
    Falling Through#
    Meg White (1st take)
    Meg White
    Burn*
    Sarah*
    Winterbirds*
    I Still Care for You#
    You can bring me flowers
    Hey me Hey mama
    Roses and Cigarettes
    Henry Nearly Killed Me
    Trouble
    Shelter#
    Til the Sun Turns Black

    1st Encore:
    Three More Days
    Gossip in the Grain*

    2nd Encore:
    Jolene (duo)

    *Ray solo
    #w/ Leona Ness

    Re: Ray Lamontagne

Got to see him a few years ago in a tiny little venue in Hollywood where my girlfriend and I along with another couple got to lay around in this nook/alcove thing the entire show. Was like watching a concert on a couch (which isn't bad for a Ray show since it's not really dancing music).

Anyway, had a great time. Guy is a great lyricist on most of his stuff and sings with tons of intensity that seems to be lacking in a lot of music today. Recommend him to anyone into his style, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I know, it sucks. I met my boyfriend at his place and we were gonna drive down to the area and watch as much of the game as we could before the show started, but then we re-heated some deep dish and opened a beer. We kept saying, "we'll leave after this inning," but were so certain that we'd miss something important.

Fortunately, I've seen Ray 3 times (and all 3 times were with this "dmbinchicago" character) but this is the 2nd time my boyfriend has skipped seeing him for something else, so he really doesn't know what he's missing.

I think that's what happened. I couldn't see Ray with you, so I didn't wanna be there. I didn't wanna let My Jeff down, so I was fortunate enough to have a Cubs game as an excuse.
