The First 41 Songs Written

Does anyone have a list (maybe in chronological order) of the first 41 songs written? Obviously we have the numbered tunes but I'd be interested to at least know which songs make up the first 41...

we used to keep it here, but we took the page down. I'll see if I can find it.

but basically the truth is that they didn't really keep a count; it was more of a guess. We made it fit so that #34 was the 34th song, but it's really up to Dave's digression what he counts and how he counts it.

For example, Song that Jane Likes is actually from a thing Dave did with Mark Roebuck in early 1990; but Dave calls I'll Back You Up his first song he wrote. STJL without a doubt came before IBYU, so does Dave not count that b/c he co-wrote STJL?

I think technically it was. If I remember correctly, the "new" numbered songs (#27, #35) were considered the (respective number) songs written as part of a "new batch of songs", starting over at #1. I don't think anyone really knew when that "batch" actually began being written, but I imagine we can assume it started with the new 2006 or 2007 songs.

They were mostly - it's good to see the actual ("guesstimated") progression though, and where songs like Spotlight etc came into the picture. There are some cool surprises too.

I think Jake's reasoning was because of it's potential inaccuracy he didn't want to pass it off as truth. He's got a background in journalism so at least someone out there has integrity these days

#27 was the 27th song of the Batson sessions. #35 was named as such as a tribute to Roi, as he is so prominent on #34.

    Obviously you guys aren't golfers.

    In all seriousness, I know.

I was joking that 27 isn't actually the 27th song Dave ever wrote in terms of pure chronology.

Yeesh. No senses of humor around these parts.

i get that - though it could be noted that "this is a rough estimate - dates are not exact, they could be wrong, but it's the best we can do given the information we have"

I've saved the archive anyway - I love looking through it! Thanks for whoever put all the work into it (presumably Jake et al?)

#35 was named so because it is the next tribute song, the first being (obviously) #34.

Alls I know for sure is the last on the list is my favorite song.

I forgot that Recently was "the Paul Simon song" - the first time I heard it, that's exactly what it reminded me of. I think that was around the time the Graceland album came out.

Isn't Lover Lay Down the Paul Simon song because it sounds like FWTLYL?
