Re: GODZILLAc

One of the details of the marketing where I've really liked how they've handled it, if you look at the entirety of all the footage we've seen so far they're not necessarily even trying to keep the creature totally hidden. I mean if you remember back on the atrocity that was the 1998 film, they tried to ride that wave a very specific way of just how little we'd actually see of Godzilla leading up to the release. and the company behind this of course is perfectly aware that millions of people saw that movie, and while I'm sure the overall design of him will be better, it's probably not like a night/day difference between the two. So it's like they're telling us "who are we kidding, you all know more or less what the thing looks like, so let's not even spend a lot of time worrying about the crafting of that reveal". I feel like it's actually them sort of respecting the audience.

and I do totally love the rough sort of edge to the sound of his scream there at the end.

well I'm sorry if that was a little beyond you.

okay I'll grant you that was probably a bit more "fat" than it needed to be, but I'm saying I think it's interesting the way the studio has handled the marketing, in terms of the actual reveal of the look of Godzilla. They're not at all treating it like Sony did back in 1998, and I think maybe because they're thinking, well what's the point really. that's all.

Bryan Cranston became Walter White, in my mind, so when I'm listening to him talk in the trailer, I'm like who pissed off Heisenberg?

It's the same way with Shatner, I ways thought of him as Captain Kirk. Seems like when someone does one role so well it almost defines them as an actor and a human being.

Nothing was "beyond me." It took a wall of text for you to say, "I think it's interesting that they're revealing the look of Godzilla in the trailers when they didn't in 1998."

And you are insane if you don't think said look will be night and day compared to 1998.

makes a lot more sense now.. that's why the jet crashed at the beginning of the trailer.

Not exactly true. From the iO9 article...

"HOWEVER, while we know that Toho productions gave Legendary Pictures the rights to Godzilla, we do not know if they gave up the rights to other classic Toho monsters. So while something may look like Rodan, it may not actually legally be called Rodan. Then again, Toho is also distributing this new reboot in Japan, so we're not sure why they would shoot themselves in the foot like that. They could have granted Legendary Pictures rights to all the monsters, but kept the actual roster secret for now, to make it a surprise when the time comes."

    Please, no need to apologize.

I have heard otherwise but I can also be wrong. I just can't wait to see the final product!!!

I remember liking Godzilla as a kid and having a giant blow up Godzilla (like 4 or 5 feet tall - which was huge to a 5 year old) that would scare the crap out of me at night. I had to get my parents to take it out of my room at night so I could sleep.

Regardless, movie looks amazing. Looks like it'll be an actual monster that terrorizes town in a believable sense. I got goosebumps watching the trailer.

The atmosphere, music, and cast looks really good. Some of that CGI is pretty laughable though, especially scenes involving water.
