Two quality semis for the men, setting up a classic final between two of the greats. Curios to see how Rafa recovers in time for the final. I am sure he will be fine, the guy is a warrior, and this is a Grand Slam Final. But he has lots of miles on that body and knees.

Interesting tid bit from ESPN Stats...

The men's singles final will be the ninth meeting between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in a Grand Slam final, the most by any tandem in men's tennis history. Nadal has a 6-2 record in the previous matches. This will be their 12th meeting overall in a Grand Slam. Federer has won two of three from Nadal at Wimbledon but is 0-8 everywhere else. Their most recent meeting in a Grand Slam final was at the 2011 French Open.

    Re: *The Official Tennis Thread*

Federer has always been the smarter and more technical player. Nadal just always had a step on him and could just play the push role.

Now that Nadal has lost a step, and can't just run down every ball, I'm really curious to watch this match and see if Federer can work him like I think he can.

edit: I will give Nadal credit though, now that the doesn't have the legs he used to, I have noticed he's improved his ability to craft points. But I'm not sure there's ever been anyone as good as Federer at that, so even with the improvement, I don't see Nadal out crafting Fed. He'll just have to outlast him... same as it ever was.

Nah, that's a Fed move. Look at the sets Rafa lost in the semis: 5 and 6.

Now look at the sets Fed lost: 1 and 4.

Fed knows when to tank. Rafa is like a fucking bull dog; he doesn't have tank in him.

Fed will need to win first set. If he doesn't, I think it's over. If Fed wins, it'll be something like 6-4, 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

If he loses, I think it'll be bad, like 2, 3 and 1 or something awful like that.

That 8th game of the 5th set. Holy, fucking, shit. Just incredible.

Then Nadal has two chances to break back at 5-3 and Fed serves his way out of it. Amazing.

I thought Fed was done when he got broke right off the bat in the 5th.

    What a great match.

Kind of old news at this point, but wanted to post a video link from the Davis Cup match with Canada v. GB where Denis Shapovalov tagged the chair umpire in the face with a ball after losing a game. Immediate DQ for Denis Shapovalov. Referee just had eye surgery to repair a fracture to the bone around the eye. Thankfully, no cornea or retina damage was found. Pretty crazy stuff.

^ that was freaking crazy. Man, chair ump handled that EXTREMELY well.

Anybody watch Fed/Kyrgios tonight? Pretty incredible match, tiebreakers in all three sets. Fed ended up winning, thankfully. Kyrgios actually kept it together pretty well until the 3rd set when he mocked the chair ump, kicked a ball into the stands, yelled at some fans to shut the fuck up, threw his racket a couple times, and completely shattered it after match point. Oh, and then of course changed into his basketball shoes immediately after the match to walk off the court.

Kyrgios is the Happy Gilmore of tennis. Happy was a hockey player playing golf, Kyrgios is a basketball player playing tennis. Both are obviously poor sports. The big difference though is Gilmore was actually very likable.

Fed/Nadal on Sunday, should be awesome.

    Kyrgios is nuts.

Had money on Federer tonight. Not a fun feeling to sweat out three tiebreakers. Was a bit worried with Kyrgios serving at 5-4 in the 3rd breaker. I was not optimistic.

Have to say, this is the least excited have been for a GS event in sometime. Not sure if it is because Rafa looks so dominate or that no other men's player looks good enough to win, but just not feeling it. As for the women, talk about wide open, any number of players have a chance of winning. Regardless, I will watch as much as I can of the tournament. Just hope that something or someone can drum up some excitement and we don't see a Rafa march to the finish.

While I do, somewhat, agree that with no Serena, the women's draw could be exciting. Except, there is no one really exciting to root for on the women's side. Kerber is just too vanilla. Halep, who is injured, just can't seem to get over the hump. Kvitova is coming off being attacked, would make an amazing story if she pulled it off though. I just don't see Mugu pulling off another improbable run, ala last year. Maybe, Venus makes one finally push for a major. Personally, would be happy wth Puig, Keys or Wozniacki pulling off their first majors.
