Overall I really enjoyed speedweeks. I can't wait to go next year (it will mark 10 years since my last Daytona 500 and my first Daytona race since 2011)! I really want NASCAR to survive as a sport, so I hope this new format works well. I was glad to see the 500 had solid attendance yesterday.

Personally, I like the idea and thought it really brought some excitement to the middle of the race. It wasn't just guys riding around for the middle 100 laps waiting for the end of the race to do something. It used to be that, for pretty much any race, you watch the first 30 laps and the last 30 laps and you saw all you really needed to see.
I really liked seeing how many different strategies were used by the different teams. It really shakes things up but wasn't really a deterrent to the race itself.
I'm not 100% sold on it just yet because Daytona is such a different beats than the other tracks. Lets see how it plays out on tracks like Atlanta and California and Pocono where the field gets more spread out during the race.

Overall, it seemed to make things a little more competitive. Now you've got three races in one, so to speak. I still need to see how it works at a 1.5 mile, a 1 mile, and a short track.

the 5 minute repair rule was made to try to clean up the late race debris cautions. they found that a lot of wrecked cars go out on the track when they probably shouldn't just because they want to try to gain some spots and points and they end up dropping parts all over the place or get in/cause more wrecks. now, if you can't repair the car on pit road in 5 minutes, its too beat up to keep going.
i'm not sure if 5 minutes is long enough though. what i do know is that i don't like how the timer starts as soon as the car enters pit road and goes until it leaves. it should only count for the time the car is actually in the pit box. they said it takes about 30 seconds to drive the length of pit road at daytona. thats a ton of time when you only have 5 minutes total.
