Re: DMB 2016 25 Years

i understand why people think nothing special will happen

im not sure, but something that is pushing me to believe something will happen is that 2016 is the year that they're eligible for the rock n roll hall of fame. might be nice to dust off the tunes that got them to where they are now

Yeah man fuck celebrating the band's anniversaries, such an odd thing to do too, it's not like any other band has ever celebrated an anniversary or anything like that...

Other bands do. And it's usually at a point in their career where focusing on the future isn't really much of an option.

Foo Fighters, on the other hand, are a great example of how to acknowledge a twentieth anniversary. Have a concert. Acknowledge the significance, but focus on the career.

It's not worth DMB's time and effort to try to do something for the anniversary, especially not for the purpose of pleasing the people here. The band is playing the hell out of the first three albums this tour, and it's being blasted as one of the worst tours the band has ever done on this site. To the point where they are posting angry letters, and comments are annoying band members on twitter so they can high five when they got blocked.

And DMB can't acknowledge their history because....??

And it wouldn't be just for pleasing people on these boards.

I wouldn't mind something Caravan-Esque for 2016. 3 night shows in multiple regions, good spread of music, would be a lot of fun. I had a blast at the Chicago Caravan in 2011. Probably my favorite DMB experience

Yeah, it was still a fun experience. Walking the grounds, the food, the craft beer tents, being with my friends, 3 nights of DMB. I had a blast.

Yeah there were some rough spots in the shows, but it was still fun. And I love Chicago so that helped.

Yeah those sets that year did not meet the potential of that kind of tour structure.

But yes Chicago comes to life during the summer and IMO is one of the greatest cities in the US during that time. I've lived one block south of Wrigley for about 5 years now, and although winters are hell the summer makes up for it 5 times over.

I don't understand for the life of me why they don't do warehouse only small shows and play the hardcore only sets. When they play somewhere like Charlotte once a year, you have to cater to every type of DMB fan. 50 percent of those people don't want a hardcore set and they want to hear the stuff that makes us cringe. Why not do a few warehouse only shows in places like Beacon Theatre and Vegas etc. and give the hardcore fans what they want. They could charge triple the price and the shows would sell out.

People are annoyed that the Lovely Ladies are touring first and foremost. And, with some exceptions, the acoustic sets have not been markedly different than last year.

The lengths you will go to to be an apologist are astounding. What does that even mean it's not work DMB's time and effort? Them crafting something special is in the course of their normal work. They're going to tour...so marketing it differently and being purposeful with setlist creation isn't really additional time or effort on anyone in the band's part.

DMB can only put together 2 good shows at a time - and sometimes you even have to justify why they are even good in the first place. No way this band can put together an entire tour that is, at worst, good let alone great. It's just going to be another tour with a live release, maybe a dvd and t shirts on the store.

That's a good reason to go to six concerts this year and see the band over 60 times.

Its actually quite a handful more than that - need some updating. Luckily I saw some of the better shows this tour. I went all year without hearing Seven, so that in itself is a success. I figure if I see a set where 60% is good, I am happy these days. I dont need everything to be great, but enough to make me keep going back and they continue to do it.

Which part? Because most of the people on this board seem to find every show from terrible to decent at best. With an exception of Alpine and MAYBE SPAC, have their really been any run of shows that stand out more than others? No.
