Re: Official Phish Discussion

Man, those peaks in Roggae and Reba hit the spot. Sooooo good.

Releasing the "jam filled" flavor two days ahead of time is such a classic Phish troll move. Love it.

I'll put my prediction out there.

Set One:
Jammin'*
Jam (~75 minutes)

Set Two:
Jam (~90 minutes)

Encore:
Ha Ha Ha
Alive**

*Bob Marley cover
**Pearl Jam cover

Mike and Page have their moments, but struggle with intonation when singing harmonies. Trey has a great ear, but not a great voice. The easiest way to tell that a Phish fan has had their brain completely fried by drugs is when they try to suggest that Jon Fishman's voice is anything other than atrocious. It's comically bad. I literally can't listen to Fish without breaking out in laughter. It adds to the experience in a weird, quirky way, but the fans who try to insult the intelligence of others by suggesting that his voice is good are so far gone you have to laugh.

When people who are curious about the Phish show experience ask what makes it special/unique, I usually mention that the absence of cell phones is refreshing. You can't go to many gatherings any more where folks have the self discipline to keep their phones in their pockets. It's awesome.

So refreshing to hear. That was the first thing I noticed when they released that 1999 Prince cover. We didn't know how good things were in the 90s...

Not sure if the Fishman part was in response to an earlier post of mine, but if so I was probably confusing him and Page, which is why I mentioned I didn't even remember what songs he sang. I think in my early Phish days I thought Page was Fish sometimes, hasn't really left my brain I guess.

If anyone bought any of the streams to the first few nights, especially first night, and you want to help me preserve these, shoot me a PM.

Edit: The window to snag the first night is likely closing very soon, hence the urgency on the first night.

Love this band. Loved the show last night. For some reason, 90% of the drinking establishment I've been to are Irish. Please do not hope for petrichor. It is dog shit. I saw it in Charleston and it was the worst

Far from dog shit. Doesn't necessarily translate well live, but it is one of my favorite songs in a while. Was happy to catch it in Jax.

I mean, I think some people simply aren't that discriminating necessarily more than totally fried, but for the most part, I think even Fishman himself would agree with you...

i'll tell newbies to disregard their vocals cause otherwise they'll get hung up on it. my buddy's wife is coming with us to the Aug 5 show, she's never seen them and has frequently voiced her not-so-kind opinion of them, so hopefully my advice of disregarding the vocals helps her enjoy the show

its part of their quirkiness for sure, but i would not complain one bit if they could actually sing.

    Re: Official Phish Discussion

an interesting topic is being discussed over on another phish forum, phook.net. Someone asked if there are 13 shows throughout the band's history that don't have a single repeat. Some good discussions in there (if you're willing to read the thread), but someone tweeted at David Steinberg, who is the quintessential phish stats guy, and the best he could come up with is 9 shows that dont share a single repeat

    those shows are:

    Quote:
    10/23/84
    11/3/84
    3/8/85
    5/31/85
    4/1/86
    5/24/86
    7/15/17
    7/16/17
    7/18/17
however, as someone on the phook.net thread said...

    Quote:
10/23/84 is one song, Makisupa. That can't count as a show. 11/3/84 is said to be incomplete. For all we know, there is a repeat. In fact I think it likely. 3/8/85 is one song. 5/31/85 has one listed song and it says it's incomplete. 5/24/86 says it's incomplete too. Take those out and you're down to the five shows that began this tour plus 4/1/86 which might sneak through because it's a lot of covers and YEM and Hood.
Steinberg probably ran an algorithm without actually looking at the setlists for the shows

    https://twitter.com/zzyzx/status/889202024000012288
    http://phook.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6275

i'm still in the "there will be repeats" boat although i dont think there'll be many. the discussion in the aforementioned thread helps back up my, and many others, thoughts.

of course, if phish decides to go all phish on us and not repeat a single song, that would be a very pleasant surprise

Im confused... 9 shows in a row? Why are shows from 2017 listed in that group?

Or are you just saying in general, how many shows can you find that dont share a song?

I mean we know they can at least go 5, whether in a row or in general, as the start of this tour showed.

Calling Raspberry Beret, Oh Honey Pi, Kick Out the Jams for tonight. I'd love to see a Mountain Jam as well.

I was reading some people's guesses of the songs they'll play and there's a TON of related songs for tonight. It really makes me wonder if we're going to see the "deep jams" that everyone is hoping for.

Beyond that there are still 22 songs that have been played 250+ times.

they play a few of their songs a LOT, and i think that's what makes it so difficult to find 13 random shows that dont repeat a single song

I've been here 13 years now. I've literally only met one irish person who didn't bartend and/or own a bar. I think it's the only reason they come over
